Which class are you taking now and which software suite are you using? I just started EBUS218, Multimedia for the Web and we're using Dreamweaver and Fireworks. So far it seems to be an interesting class and we start our first site during lab time tonight.

Yeah I bought Adobe CS3 Design Premium this Year and Adobe CS2 Suite Last Year both for $199. It sucks cause our school has a contract with adobe and upgrades every year so I have to also and since Adobe was cruel and made CS3 not backwards compatible to CS2 I had to upgrade so I could work on stuff at class and at home.

I once bought a wacom tablet at academic pricing. saved me over $150 bucks if I recall.

Who's products are you talking about? The only company I'm aware of that allows no upgrades whatsoever for their edu editions is Apple. Microsoft and Adobe's products can be upgraded but only by edu-edition upgrades. On the Adobe side, that may just be a paper threat as I've seen several reports of people saying they had no problems upgrading edu versions of Photoshop with a retail upgrades.

I purchased a few Educational Adobe Products while in college and I was unable to upgrade those to new versions.

How does Microsoft verify that you're a student? I saw MS Office Professional 2007 for around $150 at Office Depot but it was for students.

CHeck with your school and see if the have MSDNAA and get signed up for an account. You can get almost everything MS makes for free there. Everything excpet Home versions of Vista and the 4 main programs of Office (word, excel, powerpoint and outlook)and their more consumer oriented software. Last night I downloaded One note 2007, sharepoint designer, Expression studio, Map Point all for free! Not to mention Vista Business, they've got every version of Server 2003, Visual Studio 2008, Access, sharepoint server ,exchange, sql, fricken everything is on there.

That's a pretty good price. I just paid $600 for Design Suite Premium this past week with my student discount through adobe.com.

A couple years ago at the Art Institute, they sold a package that included Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, Final Cut HD and LiveType for $200. If you were in Animation, you could get all of those plus Maya and 3D Studio Max for an extra $200.

I always buy my programs since I do a lot of subcontracting work. No sense in going to jail over a few programs. Plus it's nice to have have disks handy whenever you upgrade your OS.

Just recently upgraded from Panther to Leopard.

the price that's it. The thought is that they'll provide the software for cheap cause
A. students are broke and can't afford to pay full price and they need the software for the class their taking.
B. if you learn how to use their software you'r more likely to stick with what you already know then switch to a new software and then they'll make their money when you upgrade.

It's just like gillette sending you the free razor in the mail on your 18th birthday!

And I just got Office 2008 for Mac today, along with Aperture

Thank you, what.cd
and i've got invites for anyone who wants one
