HP/Compaq support

I am currently on hold, have been for over an hour now, waiting for someone to try and help me determine a problem with a fiber router that may have gone bad overnight. I can't believe the company paid so much money for the support contract and all I get is the same number as everyone else and I have to be on hold for so long. Given it is a saturday, the sooner they get someone here the sooner they can get back to prepping for their super bowl party. The bad part is that we spent 6 months getting this hardware to work properly and they replaced the router before, along with backup drives. The company that sold us the hardware went out of business last year as well, so no support from them.

Some idiot (me) wasn't told that when we bought the carepaq for the backup library that it included our fiber router. I just got a call back from HPQ and they said it is $2500.00 to expedite the call. $368/hour with a 2hr minimum and $240.00 travel fee for them to come out this weekend. They want a credit card to do this, I should have laughed, but this is a mission crticical system and we need it up by Monday morning.

I will say I was not told what the carepaq encompassed upon purchase or making the decision that we didn't need 24/7 support.

I called them back and gave them a CC# and they said it would be 15-20mins, now almost an hour later no calls back.

I talked to a guy who worked at the company who sold us the SAN and he told me the company was never allowed to sell a SAN again because some problems they had with one they sold to verizon.

The same guy mentioned above told me a story of another company that spend 3-4million on a SAN from EMC and it goes down every 15mins or so, and they can't get the data to replicate from NYC to some bunker in IL, and EMC can't even figure it out.

The joys of IT.

still cool though: getting paid for "what you know and not do". most days i surf, end up here, go home early come in late, but when shit breaks... 48 hour days are not out of the ordinary,
but we keep our shit pretty up to date and maintained well

This was a freak situation where something broke. No control and no maintenance.

Most days mean more than 8hrs a day of work not including time at home working.

I have never spent more than 27hrs straight at work, it was a bad upgrade before I was in control.

I once spent a long night working on an SCO box, come to find out it was dual nic that looked like a modem, another thing bought before I was in charge.

I love those horrible IT stories, but the day when a woman gets a new monitor and asks if she gets anymore screen savers with it makes for a wonderful week. I had to walk away before laughing and telling the story. retards

Latest update is they will call me tomorrow (Monday) when the part gets in around 10am and they will come out and fix the problem around 12-1pm. Our company just paid $2500.00 to have someone call and tell me that, this is getting so much better.

I get out of my time and stress management course tomorrow.
