can i bypass this thing? it looks archaic and it is the only thing i do not know how to test...

problem is his connection dropped intermittently and pages fail to load.
This is the kind of stuff that I was talking about in my first post. You'll have to let us know how many hours it took you to complete this job. I'm curious now.

Guys, this jOb was a nightmare. I had to update firmware on everything, run a service back, remove malware and update an iPhone to get everything working correctly. That is on top of cleaning up the patch panel and securing his network which had 10 assigned ip's for a 5 pc house.

Took me 4 hours and some change. Made 300 bucks but that's because he asked me to come back for more work and his mother in law wants me to come by as well.

Wow, you still undercharged dude. Is he going to pay you for the follow up visit or is this a courtesy call? I'd be charging more because that's a hell of a lot of work to be doing!

and this is why you want to charge what you are worth. Home visits are always a nightmare. You are lucky you got out of there in 4 hours with $300 in hand.

Phee, for home work, you may want to consider a quick site visit before quoting a price. If that;s not feasible, maybe have the customer take a photo of the gear/connection and email it to you before quoting.

I didn't give a quote before visiting. He never even asked. The price I named was after the job and talking to the guy asking him what else he needed done etc.

I will say that I never expected a patch panel tho. My head nearly exploded when we walked in there.
