not sure what you are going for, but you know you can plug a RJ-11 (std phone cable) into an RJ-45 jack (std network jack). So basically if your house is wired for ethernet you can use those jacks for phone. You just need to terminate them into a phone punch down panel or similar at the homerun.

Otherwise are you talking about a networked VOIP phone?

Are you talking about an actual phone or a phone service?

We recently installed Ooma service, which is a VOIP phone service. Haven't really used it much since it is a secondary line, but it has received great reviews.

Well, I have a cable modem that has a phone jack. However, I am not able to put the phone near the cable modem. I would like to get a voip phone so I can use a network cable. Yes, I also need to sign up for voip service.

once you get VOIP service you can use your existing phone lines in your house you just have to disconnect the lines from the main line. Or as I mentioned earlier using an ethernet network in your house that is connected just for phones.

That will save you from buying new phones, or you can get a set of cordless phones where only the base phone needs to be connected to the phone line and you can just hook that up near the cable modem.

Those options should be cheaper than purchasing a dedicated VOIP phone.

If you sign up for Vonage they will give you a box that accepts a normal telephone. The box has ethernet to plug into your network.

This is all we did when we had Vonage. The phone out on the Vonage router was plugged into one of the wall jacks, which then "enabled" every jack in the house. So all we had to do was plug a phone into the wall into any jack in the house and they all worked as if we had a standard land-line.

No fancy phones or cabling or configuring necessary...
