Highest Cell Phone Bill for a Month
Hit $440 last month with a teenage daughter WHO HAS UNLIMITED TEXTING.
She had over 7500 text messages and 160 hours of talk time.

wow, just crunching some numbers... with 730 hours per month total, 243 hours are spent sleeping (8 hours of sleep a night), and 173 are spent in school. That leaves 313 hours in a month not in school or sleeping. That would mean half of her time not in school or sleeping is spent talking on the phone... this does not include eating/bathroom/driving time, plus it does not include the time she had to take to type 7500 texts....

And you haven't taken her phone away?

Yikes. My teenage sister's talking was nipped in the bud by my parents the first time she went over. She had no phone for 2-3 months as punishment. She's never gone over since then.

Yikes.
When I have children and they are old enough to justify giving them a cell phone, I'll either go the pay-as-you-go route and not allow them to go out unless they are able to call me, or strict parental controls on their line only allotting them so many minutes and so many texts with the exception of being able to contact me.

Just get unlimited plans geez.

Nobody should pay well into three digit pricing for a cell phone plan. Either you're on the wrong plan or you're calling some country that charges $2/min non-stop.
Talk to your provider for a better plan! (or let your kids foot the bill)

My son is not getting a cell phone unless he pays for the service himself or until I determine he's mature enough to use it responsibly. In any case he won't carry it around at school. I didn't get one until I was 25 and we certainly weren't allowed to have them at school.
Personally I never saw the need for teenagers to have cell phones anyway. I've even seen kids 8 years old carrying around and talking on cell phones.

my highest was about $300 b/c i was in Vegas and had a lot in roaming (i was stupid and forgot to add US roaming mins).
when i was working at a phone company, i saw people with $900 bills b/c their kids used a lot of texts, mins and long distance. they were pissed and we usually gave them a break, if they were nice.

If anyone hasn't figured it out shes not paying attention in class and just texting all day and then calling all night.
Professor... I'm pretty sure you can get coverage cut outs during school days. Call your company and ask them. They can basically black out her service during school hours.

Professor, what exactly does she need a cell phone for? Emergencies I can understand. So you get one of those phones that only allows them to call a select set of numbers.
At this point, there should be no cell phone. It's obviously a HUGE distraction to her.
