“Fell off the truck” implies STOLEN.
“Hook us up for a group buy” implies that the person wants to buy.
So sorry I misunderstood your post(s).

Anyway.........Back on topic please.

Do you have a 802.11g router at home? I can't remember what you bought.

No, mine is only a B.
I heard that the B is faster then a cable NET connection anyway.
So unless I was transferring large files between devices, it wouldn’t matter.

Right ???

It’s a Netgear.
When I bought it, I paid about 60 bucks while the “G” ones were selling for about 120.

Well...

You're correct about cable, speeds, but...

What if you want to transfer files from the desktop to the laptop?

You'll then be transferring at B speeds and not G. That makes a nice difference in internal transfers.

If I have THAT big a transfer to do I’ll just take it downstairs and plug it directly into the Router.
Plus “G” routers are down to about 50-bucks now if I decide to upgrade.

Yea, I’ll probably load Acad 2002 on there, but that’s not what it is intended for.
And no chance in HELL of getting work to pay for it.
I mainly got it for occasional personal travel and a place to dump digital pictures every night when traveling.
I don’t want to lose a weeks worth of photos if my cameras memory card shits itself.
I also want to be able to check the net for directions and attractions when on vacation.
Plus “working” outside at home when the weather is nice.

PORN….? Yea maybe that too

I picked up a toshiba from Best Buy about 3 weeks ago. $650 and it does everything I need it to. 2.4ghz, 256meg (upgraded with another 256 stick for $25, 15.1 inch screen, dvd/cdrw drive, windows XP home etc. I also bought a g router and card for pretty cheap. Me and my wife like it but she said it is heavier than her laptop at work (dell of some sort).

This past weekend we went to New Orleans on a whim (sp?) and stayed at the Wydahm hotel. If you sign up over the internet they give you free high speed internet. I was going to pay my bills before we left but I was able to just wait until we got there! It was the first time I had use of a computer while travelling and it was pretty damn neat!

never.

802.11g is 54Mb vs 802.11b which is 11Mb

Readup on 802.16 and 802.20
802.16 is the next best standard right around the corner...

probably be awhile before it's cheap though.
