HDTV question-Rear Projection, Plasma, LCD

Can a rear projection (HDTV) be tuned to be as sharp as a Plasma or LCD screen? My girlfriend wants us to get a Plasma, but I don't feel like spending Plasma money. I also saw this Sony LCD, and the picture was amazing....but it's still $4k-$5k.

And last, there's a 43" Hitachi rear projection that comes highly recommended. The only problem is that watching a couple of minutes on a plasma or LCD spoils you and nothing is quite as sharp.

In my opinion (and many others) the picture you get from an RPTV is better then you’re going to get from a Plasma.
This includes signals from both a Progressive DVD player AND true Hi-Definition.

It’s just a question if you can live with the BIG BOX in your room.

Make sure you’re watching comparable signals when you’re TV shopping.
Don’t compare a cable signal on an RPTV to a DVD picture on a Plasma.

i agree with shawn 100%.

ive owned multiple plasmas and lcd's... many of my friends have plasmas/lcd's as well...

NONE of them can compare to a good RPTV...

Not a single plasma on the market right now can produce an image as lifelike as that of a top-shelf RPTV.

and lets not even get into black levels...

Some of the BRAND NEW HIGH-END plasmas come close... but still no cigar.

Plasmas have many problems that you WILL notice when you watch multiple types of content on them.

The future is DLP Rear Projection. All the quality of RPTV but even better... and so far as little as 18" thick.
