Hating this porting bs...
i have to use 2 phones...one for outgoing...one for incoming...why??? b/c between VZ and ATT, noone knows wtf is going on on porting my number
was already on the phone with VZ twice for 45 minutes to have them read me some bs script about how thousands and thousands of people 'just like me' are having the same problem which should be resolved within 24 hours...that was 3 days ago
so much for the seamless transition our lead telecom analyst keeps talking about

i guess the fact that AT&T is under subpoena to explain why it's taking so long to release the numbers just shows how AT&T is willing to blame everyone cept themselves...
Dec. 10 (Bloomberg) -- AT&T Wireless Services Inc., the third-largest U.S. mobile-phone carrier, blamed outside contractors for problems that it has had complying with a new rule that lets customers keep numbers when they change providers.
In a letter to U.S. regulators who asked why the company has been the subject of more complaints than its peers, AT&T Wireless cited NeuStar Inc., which is handling number transfers for the Redmond, Washington-based company. It also singled out TSI Telecommunication Services Inc., which is doing the switches for the other five national U.S. carriers.
AT&T Wireless was cited in 332 of the 600 complaints lodged with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission after the regulator started forcing carriers to let defecting customers keep phone numbers. The company's inability to handle switching requests rankled customers and investors.
``AT&T Wireless has devoted substantial resources and energy to addressing and resolving'' problems moving numbers to and from other carriers, it said in the letter. The company ``has cleared thousands of backlogged'' number transfers and is responding to new requests ``on a level comparable to the rest of the industry.''
NeuStar took too long to handle requests to move a number from AT&T Wireless to another carrier and was hindered in resolving backlogs by system crashes, AT&T Wireless said.
``Initial issues were primarily with the capacity'' rather than a ``fundamental problem with NeuStar's software,'' said Sterling, Virginia-based Neustar in a statement sent via e-mail. '`Resources were immediately brought to bear to increase the capacity of the system.''
TSI and NeuStar also used incompatible systems, according to AT&T Wireless's letter to the FCC.
AT&T Wireless didn't have enough time to identify the ``interoperability problems'' because TSI, which is based in Tampa, Florida, performed two software upgrades in the four weeks before the rule took effect Nov. 24. The moves ``shut down critical intercarrier communications testing,'' the letter said.
``AT&T Wireless and NeuStar declined to be involved in any industry testing prior to November 24th,'' TSI spokeswoman Helen Harris said yesterday, before today's letter was released. AT&T Wireless has said that statement is incorrect.
Harris also acknowledged that ``during testing, we discovered glitches in the system, which is the purpose of testing, and those glitches were resolved.''
AT&T Wireless also blamed a ``lack of uniform and enforceable'' standards for performing the switches.
Officials at TSI didn't respond to requests for comment on the letter to the FCC. It and NeuStar are closely held.

Remember last year....and months ago...and a few weeks ago (Nov) when I kept mentioning that Sprint was ready for WLNP and the other carriers had not bothered?
Verizon didn't bother because they thought they could beat this. Only Sprint was ready in November of last year when the law was ready to go into effect...but got delayed.
Now that doesn't mean that Sprint is WLNP flawless but I do think it means we went down this road a long time ago instead of waiting till the last minute. I knew this was going to be an important deal. And now it looks like some customers are paying for it.
Good luck. Maybe all the stories will deter everyday people from switching without first giving it some serious thought. It's all netting out pretty much the same for everyone anyway. Don't believe the crap about everybody fleeing one carrier and flocking to another. Ain't happening.

you said you "refused to do it for her"...well i'm having my VZ rep duke it out with ATT customer service b/c that's his job, and he actually sympathizes with me b/c he knows he told me from the very beginning "VZ will take care of EVERYTHING" for me, and i'm holding him to it
again, you should look at it from our perspective first before being a dick to someone

chris... just to let u know.... vzw issues automatic $25 credits to any port that takes longer than 48 hours to complete... its not something that is mentioned in the stores... just something that happens... it's some sort of compensation at the least...
the port process can fail for the two smallest reasons...
1) if the name under which u sign up with the new provider is different than what your billing name was from your old service provider... a missing initial, an abbreviated first name, etc...
2) if the acct number from your old service provider is one digit off
let me know if you have any problems and i'll look into it...
I knew someone who switched from sprint to vz and it took 5mins, I had another friend who did the same thing, except he purchased his vz phone with service a week in advance, and then he went to get it ported a week later and it only took 2.5weeks to get it ported over. Legally they only have 24hrs to port the number over, file a claim with the FCC?

3 cellphones and even at that it's impossible to get a hold of him......
FINALLY got it fully ported...yea i got the $25 credit...shoulda got at least double considering i have to pay 2 bills instead of one for this bs...and it's not as much VZ's fault as it is AT&T's...they're the ones who were illegally putting passwords on accounts and changing the names in the accounts...total bullshit
