just picked it up for 50 out the door. no rebates or anything. so far i like it. menu is slower than expected. i wonder how cingular service is in davis and san jose.

Well, being a recent Davis grad and having friends with Cingular, it is so-so. Cell phone service in Davis sucks hardcore no matter what service; North Davis especially (Out on and past Covell). On campus, I had no problems with AT&T Wireless (now Cingular).

Motorolas have not as good reception when compared to Nokias, but overall you shouldn't have a problem.

 

How the heck did you get the thing for $50? Even the ones around here are $199 with contract at the cingular stores.

 

it's not a cingular store, but an authorized cingular store. you all should know how asian stores work. they do whatever it takes to sell. and i'll post some more pix by tomorrow night.

Which store did you go to? Only places are know of are in Oakland's Chinatown, but they are T-Mobile dealers .

i upgraded my software and it runs better--- so thats a suggestion for quicker menus

i got the cell in milpitas at some asian store and they only sell cingular.
i plan on uploading a new monster pack that enables video recording and taking out the cingular signs on the screens. i also plan on adjusting some stuff in the phone so the volume is louder when opened. i think it's quite soft. now for some pix:






my current wallpaper is a pix of my 600rr. and i haven't taken the plastic sticky thing on the top yet. i will eventually. i kind of like the contrast of the flat black and glossy black. the box i got was branded with cingular all over it.

 

not feeling at all the "Cingular" in white. The unbranded ones dont have any markings. But a $400 phone for $50 is awesome

 

I find a black marker may help that, or some black concealing tape . I want one now if I can upgrade the software to make the GUI faster. Another quick question, does it have a vibrate+ring feature, not just vibrate then ring?

 

For those of you wondering, you can actually get a black razr right now for free through amazon.com. It's a mail-in rebate, but you still end up with a free phone in the end, which is nice. Only catch is having to sign up for a new service plan through cingular.

 

Don't take pictures with that plastic on it because they look like I did the samething when I got mine.

 

for the ringer, it has both options: ring and vibrate at the same time, or vibrate, then ring.
and for it being on amazon for free, yes, you can get it for free but it's 2 yr. contract i think, and you HAVE to get a new number for the rebate to work. i remember reading that somewhere on fatwallet.com.
i don't know about the GUI question but if you search for like motomodders in google or something, there's a forum for moto's. that'll probably help you.

 

theres really no way to increase the speed of the GUI so significantly that you will even really notice, i think its more mental than anything. the only good thing about flashing/flexing the firmware on the phone is video recording and to lose the cingular branded part of the equipment.

nice find, but i'm not gonna spend 20 bucks on a casing that'll eventually get scratched up from everyday use.

 

i had the silver razr for 6 months dropped it a few times never scratched the back, i dont know how the black will compare to the silver though

 

Nope it's one year and min plan is $39.99. Also, one of my friend got it and called back to get his no. tranfered. So 1yr / $39 a month / free black or silver V3...not bad

 

I've read up on the whole flash/flex thing to get video, but I'm just simply retarted when it comes to that, its all jargon to me off the howardforums, whats the easiest way to do that w/o screwing up my phone?

 

The easiest way is to simply read and then re-read everything. Thats what I did and now look what I can do with my phone!

It literally took me about a month of reading and bookmarking to get the confidence to do all this. But as you can see it was well worth it! I was thinking of changing the cl.gif to the eye from Lord or the rings. It looks pretty cool!

Yeah I was going to do that but I thought it would get annoying after awhile. Besides the battery life will suffer a little, especially when you get a lot of calls.

 

What carrier do you use? Is it Cingular? If so then this is the one you should use. But before you use it make sure you have the proper boot loader installed otherwise it won't work. After you load this one you might want to load the newer software which is R374_G_0E.42.08R Let me know if you need any help.
