Consumer electronics: Flat-screen TV prices expected to plummet
November 10, 2008
A combination of weak consumer spending and a peak in manufacturing capacity will push prices for flat-panel TVs down to unprecedented lows this holiday season, according to analysts.
David Barnes, analyst at NPD Group's DisplaySearch unit, said prices are set to decrease rapidly starting on "Black Friday," the day after Thanksgiving, and lasting through next year.
It's even possible that 32-inch LCD TV sets, which now usually cost $600 to $700, will go as low as $350 in stores.
Larger 40- or 42-inch sets are already dipping below the $1,000 level.
Barnes said he believes smaller sets will be the big sellers this year, as consumers, and possibly also credit-card companies that had fueled big-ticket spending, tighten their belts.
One factor that could boost sales: The impending shutdown of the analog TV broadcasting network in February will means that older TVs that receive TV over the air will need a converter box.

but stuff like TVs are going to be insane. typically, don't B&M stores only have several TV's with the BF deals, and aren't they gone by like 6 anyways?
BF shopping is truly for the brave and patient.
Has anyone found something cheaper and just as good as samsung 58" plasma for $2088 shipped?

I'd verify what their shipping practices are before ordering anything from them, especially a TV.

They don't. Bought this exact same TV for the grandparents, and they love it. Now my parents want a 58" and it appears that this is the best value. Anyone know of something better for that price?
I got my TV back in July...don't care what it costs next month as I've been able to enjoy it since July. I knew it would be cheaper at this point in the year (and I knew TV's were going to tank this year on top of that, too), but I'd rather have had it the last six months and been able to enjoy. If you always sit around waiting for the price to drop or the next best thing to come out, you'll miss out on a lot of things. Sure, at this point you might as well wait a month, but to say you should've waited if you bought six or more months ago is ridiculous.

i bought my TV in june. i got a good deal on it, and it helped even more since i had a coupon and gift certificate.
so unless you happen to be in a buying this time of the year, there's no point in regretting when you bought and how much you paid. that's the double edged sword with electronics purchases.
to me, being able to enjoy my tv for the past 5 months > saving a few hundred dollars.
We bought a digital 27" TV for the living/family room entertainment center a couple of years back, and I have trouble justifying getting a 42" LCD (would fit perfectly spacewise) to replace a good TV which is too large to go into the bedrooms or bathrooms.
Am I slightly deluded or crazy??

they should all have deals on TV's. problem is, everyone else is gonna want the same deal so you'll probably have to get there really early. or in the worst case, camp out with the rest of the BF crowd.
i'd check and see if there's a local circuit city that's closing and see if they have any deals on TVs in the next few weeks.
i also saw an ad earlier today (don't remember where) of a panasonic 42" for under $900 with free shipping.

dunno about the quality of the TV, though. but i'm sure there are people here that might.

I wonder if Circuit city will start having deals?

Waiting on a Samsung 630, price has come down $400 in a month, and I have not called for best prices in the last week.
I wonder how Circuit City bankruptcy is going to impact Best Buy? For me to purchase from CC, they would have to be 10% lower than BB, and then, BB would come down to match CC!
Tweeter is out of business in about 4 weeks, liquidation sale. Should be some great deals late in the game. They lasted much longer than I expected.
I hear there are no good lcd's to be had at Wal-Mart, even the Sony's are bad

I dropped $600 on my 32" half a year ago .. Could've spent that money for a 42" now ..
