(feedback request) Wifi garage door opener

Hey guys, I've been doing some reading on wifi adapters for the garage door openers and I was curious what you all used.

The need is to be able to open/close my garage remotely via an adapter for my Genie SilentMax 1000.

I've seen Bluetooth adapters for the phone which are cool but I want to control it while I am out of town.
Yes I am aware of the risk of hacking and that it will only work if wifi is available, currently my thermostat is wifi adapted.

Here is the link I've been reading so far, any input is appreciated.

Totally unrelated, but why do you want to remotely open access into your home? I understand lights, thermostat and appliance control. But hey I'm not home, come on in.. I don't

fair point, and thanks for responding.
My garage is attached to the house and is my main point of entry.

With friends and family visiting from out of town, or me traveling and having someone house sit I share and change my garage code often.

I would like to get a text "Hey I'm here" and if I'm not home or on the way I can open the door for them.

Cool, then I'd go with the a brand that has the best support and warranty. Do you have cameras as well just to confirm that your friend in fact is there and not a mile away calling you to open the door? (Sorry, I have a New Yorker's state of mind, I forgotten how it is trust thy neighbors works)

What about a Kevo or August lock on your front door? Beware, there may or may not be issues with cracking the Kevo.

Your "beware" remark is why I was shying away from these... I feel like a physical lock can be tampered with... the "wifi" opener gives me a sense of security since wifi is so common there will be way more than one in the air and of course it wouldnt be named "garage door"

I actually have the schlage (sp) touch pad deadbolt, but that too requires a code that has to be managed.

no worries, this is the type of brainstorming I wanted.

I actually do have a camera system also with a phone app.

Meh, you may be right about cracking. But if anyone is willing to go to that kind of effort to get in your front door, they're going to find a way period.

Fancy shmancy that August is but overcomplicated technology I don't like. My friend installed this finger scanning and code typing lock for his front door. I can attest that we spent a freezing night outside battling it because it wouldn't effen open. We had to climb through a window.

For your garage motor, what brand is it? Maybe they have something of the same brand that you can add to get the function you seek?

Thanks for replying...
haha, dont get me started on those damn finger scanners!!!
I too spent a night in the cold... then I returned it for the key pad lock.

The garage door is really my focus point for remote entry, there are many options for swing doors.

This is the exact model:

Genie SilentMax 1000, model 3042
