External Hard Drive recommendations

I've searched and did not find much, so if there is something that I missed, please provide a link and I'll ask that this thread be closed.

I'm hoping to buy an external HD for Christmas.
I'm looking for one more so to provide a back-up for pictures and important documents. Some video in the future.

I'm thinking 1-2 TB, easy to work with and reliable. Oh and please don't make me break the bank.

What are your recommendations?

Pretty much all the same to me. Some people think seagate is better while others think western digital is better. Ive yet to see good evidence to support either side so pretty much all the same to me.

Hard drives aren't what you'd call reliable, they can last for 10 years or only last a year, it's pretty hit or miss

How about a Western Digital® My Book® Essential™ USB 3.0 External Hard Drive, 3TB for just $110 at Costco?

I've seen the lowest at $80 but that deal ended last week.

Prices are only going to get more expensive due to the massive floods in Thailand. So you better buy now....

I have 2 mybooks as well. Have one 500gb for 4 years and one 1TB for 3+ years. Still working perfectly fine. I've seen a few bad reviews for mybooks but its more than likely because people toss them around like portable HDs.
