Excel Help

I'm stumped. I have about 80 cells in a column that I am attempting to sum. About a third of the cells have a value input while the remaining cells have a zero. At the bottom of the column is a simple summation formula (=SUM(E6:E79)).

It does not calculate correctly. It is summing everything up except for one cell value. I have tried cutting and pasting into another sheet, re-typing the values, starting comletely over-nothing works-it still doesn't add everything correctly (I, and two other office people, have manually calculated it and it adds up correctly for what is entered in the sheet).

Does anyone know what could be going on? I have the sam exact formula next to it (except for the F column) and it adds everything correctly.

If you highlight the whole column, what does it say in the SUM in the status bar (lower-right)? Is it the same or different from the formula? You might need to remove the formula first.

If you're missing one cell's value, which one is it? The first, the last, or somewhere in the middle?

Double-Click the cell, hit enter and see what happens?

Additionally, try move E79 into E80, and then try get the sum (E6:E80). See what happens then.

Excel could possibly be treating it as text. Is there a green little mark in that cell? If so, click the hazard icon that pops up when you click it and then click 'convert to number'

+1 that's what I was thinking. Finding the cell should be easy since you know what the total should be vs what the sum is calculating.

I have tried everything that y'all have said-I have highlighted the entire column (minus the formula) and it still returns the incorrect amount in the bottom bar. If I highlight just the cells with numbers in them, it sums incorrectly.

I have tried moving the formula to entirely different cell and that doesn't do anything.

I have rretyped every number and reformated every cell to ensure that it is pulling it as numbers (and not as text as y'all said).

Nothing works-it still is pulling everything but one cell (about 20 cells have the same amount though so it is hard to see which cell it is).

This is just really weird-I have literaly hundreds of spreadsheets that I have created with much more complicated formulas and have never run into this problem.

If moeronn doesn't get it...

Are these formulas or values you are summing? Can you highlight all the cells and copy, then go to a new location and Paste Special>Values, then sum them?

Don't know if you tried sending the file, but unless you're also selling viagra or replica watches, I haven't received anything.

Ha, nope, haven't sent it yet-a lot patient info that I have to delete before I send it.

No worries. If you said you get the same results when you copy/paste then paste the info into a new file without the patient info.
