Excel Gurus

I have two spreadsheets. I am trying to see if the value in spreadsheet1 column a is in a column C of another spreadsheet. He is the kicker. It does not have to match perfectly just have a portion text.

For example: Cell a2= Acurazine

I want to see if any text in column c of the second spreadsheet matches Acurazine (Non cap sensitive).

So a match to the above example would be ACURAZINE CORP in column C of spreadsheet 2.

I am looking for a formula that would say match or no match in column M of spreadsheet1

Thanks for any help! I know I am an idiot.

column C3 on file1 has what I want to search for and column E on file2 is what I want to compare it with. It does not have to match but any part of C3 could be anywhere in column E of file 2.

I do not know what vlookup is.

Insert > Function > vlookup

Maybe the little paperclip thingy can help with it.

Choose Vlookup in functions:

Lookup value = C3
Table array = E (cell number is row which comparison data begins)
Col index num = 1 (if column E on file 2 is the only column you want to compare)
Range lookup = false

See if that works.

I'm not sure about different excel documents altogether. I've only done it within multiple sheets. For example if sheet1 had the full values and sheet2 had the partial value you are searching by.

=VLOOKUP(CONCATENATE("*",E1,"*"),Sheet1!C1:C1000,1 ,FALSE)

You would put this formula on sheet2 and it would take the E1 value on sheet2, add wildcards to both sides of it and search column C of sheet1 rows 1-1000.
