EBook Reader
Bump, because I'm considering getting the wife one for her birthday/Christmas. Figure if I start researching now, I might be able to figure out which one I want to get her.
And hopefully the price will go down.

I like my sony, but I have the smallest one. The upscale versions are much nicer from what I read
PS Ive read like 15 books so far in the last 5 months, which is about 15 more than Ive read in the last 4 years

FWIW seems the folks on the train all have the smaller sized Kindle. I did see one gal with the bigger one but it looked too big. I saw a couple of iPads the first week the 3G came out but haven't since. Where did they go?
I guess I shouldn't say anything is ruled out. But my wife isn't someone who is going to download a newspaper or buy brand new books. She just likes to read what she can find at the library, and in retrospect, this may not be for her if she can't get free titles. Which is where the epub format plays a huge role.
Time for me to start researching these. Might get the wife one for our anniversary. She's a huge book fan and this thing may keep our office and living room from becoming on giant used book store. She refuses to get rid of books she's read
Wife is going on her 3rd Kindle, getting shipped. The USB adapter input broke (much like what happened 3 times on my Mophie case). Im starting to think that miniusb is a major fail.
My wife wants one too. We're leaning towards the Nook because it's only $150 for Wifi only as the extra $50 for 3G might not be of use to her since she mostly reads books so no d/ling needed. Plus she knocks out books fast so the whole book sharing thing or whatever from B&N is appealing.
FYI, I did see that Amazon was selling refurbed Kindles for $110 shipped a week ago.
I personally am happy with the iBook reader on my iPhone but I'm not a big reader.

So the new Kindles have been announced. The wifi only model at $139 is tempting. For those of you that have one is the 3G needed? Does anyone use the newspaper subscriptions? If I want to read the "paper" on the train do I need the 3G or can I easily grab it via wifi before I leave the house? Is it easy to load a standard PDF onto these things from a PC/mac?
Eh I thought about it and I might as well get the 3G since getting the thing on the work wifi is probably close to 0. Sucks that I have to wait a month. I miss my old job because I used to control the wifi and had a WLAN for these types of toys.
After reading a bit more about Kindle I don't think I need the 3G. If I get a newspaper subscription it will get delivered to the Kindle automagically before the print version is on newsstands. So as of right now I am liking the $139 one.
I feel ebook readers would only be worth it if you get free books. *cough cough*
What are some common file types that can be read? Can most read .txt/.rtf/.pdf or is it mostly proprietary nonsense?
