DVD or Blu-Ray

Hey guys,

Random question. I'm looking into buying the modern family set, seasons 1-4 but I wanted to know does it really make a difference with TV sitcoms with either blu-ray or DVD? I know for movies and certain shows like Cirque de Soleil, I can definitely tell but other than, I am pretty naive to this one...

Thanks!
Steph

It makes a difference in everything.

Personally, if the price is right, Blu-Ray it is.

If it's expensive at the moment, I think Netflix has Modern Family on Instant.

Depends on the quality of the blu-ray, and also depends on your dvd player.

Some players up-convert the dvd quite well for a sitcom type of show.

Some blu-ray versions of films and tv are pure crap.

It really depends.

blue ray versions of a lot of tv shows are crap. especially older shows, because they weren't HD back then and there is no way to convert them now so you're basically just paying for the right to say "i have season 4 of friends on blu ray"

Not entirely true.

If the studio still has access to the negative, they can (and have) made HD transfers for the bluray release (and archiving)...35mm film is still high resolution than than the HD formats most TV shows shoot in (those that arent still shooting film, which is rare.)

But in many cases, no, the studios choose to cheap out and upres to save money.

Modern Family, however, is shot in HD.

That said...don't buy either....buy them on itunes and stream them to apple TV...no clutter.
