Droid Thunderbolt
Looks like this will be my next phone.
Anyone else looking at it? Coming out 2/24/11 The 4G Web Browsing is sick! Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-d685wdtiE And here is a Hands On Review by a dude that sounds a bit like dane cook lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0Mx-nkvQUA EDIT: You can also see at the end of the video that with 3G/4G, you can now browse and talk at the same time on this phone, but Verizon is not officially advertising that fact. |
I'm waiting for the release as well (supposedly Feb 24th) but Verizon is being so hush hush with this phone. The EVO 4G on Sprint was a groundbreaking device and still is stunning, and the Thunderbolt will mirror the EVO but have slightly better build quality, a faster second gen Snapdragon processor, a better kickstand which allows you to stand the phone up vertically and horizontally along with other enhancements. This phone will be awesome!
I'm tired of my Motorola Droid and the constant build quality issues (on my 4th one now with a faulty power button). I went in to the Verizon store and played with the IPhone. It was nice, but i left unimpressed. The Thunderbolt should be the knockout device that will do it for me. |
I want a new phone I have crapberry but my verizon contract isnt up till December 2011 :annoyed:
I was checking this phone out though it looks promising |
I've been lurking all the android sites for this phone. The release date keeps getting pushed back. I really hope it'll come out on the 24th, Bestbuy has had it for preorder since the first week of Feb.
Biggest factor if I get this phone is how much Verizon is going to charge for the LTE data plan. Rumor is the same price as 3G (unlimited), but I'll believe it when I see it. |
Its been confirmed that, for now, 4G data use will not have any extra charge due to the fact that 4G coverage is not very widespread yet.
Many people are jumping in now on a 4G device to get "grandfathered in" if and when Verizon starts to charge for 4G. I live in NY City and I have about 100 Mile Radius of 4G coverage all around me so I am set :) |

picked up the phone yesterday morning. i thought it was going to be sold out going into the store at 10:30. only 3 people were there. so far the phone is pretty impressive. not too bulky however it is alot heavier than i anticipated. gotta play around with it the next couple days. will share my 2 cents by then....
|
Went to a Verizon store and Bestbuy around 10:30 as well and not many people in line for the phone. Did get confirmation from the Verizon rep that buyers will be grandfathered with the 29$ price for 4g.
For those who are interested, Amazon is selling them for 180$ and Bestbuy is extending the 249.99 price past the 20th. Ordered mine off Verizon's website for 199, getting it today. Friends got it yesterday, I'm amazing at the speeds. We'll see how the battery goes. |
same here, its on fedex truck out for delivery. I keep looking out my window every 5 mins :(
|
Did you guys see the retarded thing they did where you can't charge it when it's leaning on the kickstand?
|
yes I did but doesnt sway me from buying the phone.
All phones have both negatives and positives. I think all the other pros (Speed, 4G, Memory, Storage) Out weight the fact that I may not be able to charge while on kickstand. |
so far after several days playing around with it, the phone is just like it was advertised to be (blazing 4g speed, storage capacity, display size graphics, kickstand, and design). the drawback, when its on 4g mode the battery gets drained pretty fast. i'm a moderate user and i barely got through the working day without a charge. an extra battery or extended battery is a must if you're a heavy user.
its like a lamborghini, its fast; but consumes a lot of fuel. overall a solid phone from VZW. for those that have the 3G HTC Incredible, Droid X, Droid Pro, Samsung, Blackberry phones you should be okay until the end of the year when VZW converts all to 4G. |

All it's cracked up to be. Battery was real bad in the begining but now squeezing out 12-13 hours with moderate use. Using 4G all day. Found out some apps were actually sucking my battery dry especially Tango. |
The one thing HTC messed up on is that unlike my EVO you cant charge the phone while the phone is in landscape.

Got my T-bolt today. Anyone able to recommend a good case/holster that really protects?

Mainly interested in the photography apps that are abundant with Apple. Actually names I don't have at the moment, but there's at least 10 and I know that Android isn't on par with Apple Apps yet.

And it's possible you are being spoon-fed by iPhone users that the Android Market is the little kid in the app world. I'm not going to go as far as to say that the Marketplace is better than the App Store, but it is very close and the Marketplace will eventually grow bigger than the app store. |
Another fun point, Apple won't let you have web access to apps (like the link posted above) because god forbid you don't use their precious iTunes.
|
I don't mind using iTunes, I know those apps have been vetted. I don't like looking around for the items across the web for them.
I know people have been upset that their carry hasn't undated their phones with the latest version for Droid, they installed themselves only to have something wrong and have to reinstall the old version. Reminds me of old Windows when things never seemed to upgrade properly. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out, but nothing being spoon fed, most of them are professional photographers I know, of course they are Apple people, but I don't hold that against them. Funny how many apps are like our Pretty Girls Thread. |

And yes, it's difficult sometimes, because there are multiple devices, so upgrade aren't always perfect. Apple devs only have to worry about one device. Here is the main point. Android is capable on more devices and more networks, which means more users, which means more developer support. |
I know, soon they'll be there with Apple as far as apps, but there's a couple that I didn't see in their store that I want to use know. I'd say that Android would be the fun route to go, but when it comes to cell phones, I just want something that works, hell I still use a Motorola Razr, almost eight years old. And my wifes phone is pre VGA.
