Dell hard drive needed..... need help computer guys

i think i need a new harddrive in my dell laptop. will any 2.5in drive work?? and does anybody have any hookups?? i want a 40Gb that has the fastest spin rate.

You can put in whatever you want (assuming your bios can handle the size). Just be careful about spin rate. The faster the spin the hotter they get and heat matters in a laptop. I wouldn't put in anything faster than Dell is willing to put it in.

any drive will fit. as far as the rpms are concerned i believe the max is 4200, so i dont think you will be able to find anything faster. as long as your computer came with windows xp you shouldnt have any problem with the larger size hard drives....

the highest 7200. the med is 5400 and the lowest i found is 4200. i guess dell has 4200? my laptop is about 3 years old. is there anyway to find outhow fast mine spins!?

The drive may have its speed on its label. Also if you put your dell service tag into their website they can give you a shipping list of what you have and that may tell you. As a last ditch call the manufacturer of the drive and ask them.

Any drive will NOT fit.

Laptop drives also come in 2 different "thicknesses". One is like 9mm and the other is like 12mm. If you have a 9mm drive its possible the 12mm drive wont fit. If you have a 12, then either should fit.

This is usually only a problem on the super slim models. The bigger the lappy the more often they support 12mm.
