The CES Thread..
For those that don't know CES stand for Consumer Electronics Show. It's is the biggest electronics show of the year and is the place where companies show of the newest technologies and kindof sets the pace for whats to come in the next couple years. It starts this weeks and covers a wide variety of electronics. So this thread will be about the discussion of what's hot at CES this year. IT hasn't started yet but already things are being "leaked".
For example the new Intel Core i3/i5 chips are coming out on the 7th and they are pretty sick offering about an average 20%+ improvement compared to an already excellent equally spec'd Core 2 Duo chip while offering the same or better battery life. These Core i3/i5 chips also integrate the graphics chip into the same chip as the CPU and the GPU is also much better than what Intel has offered previously and is a great chip for the average user. These also all have Hyperthreading support and the Core i5 has turbo boost which automatically overclocks the CPU in certain situations and can even over clock the integrated GPU if needed. Really need stuff here. This is what I've been waiting for.
Expect this CES to be the year of the Tablet, not only just the Apple one but it seems everyone else is coming out with one too.

Lenovo's got some hybrid notebook/tablet

Here's one from Viliv (who?)

Also while not being introduced at CES this year Google will be announcing the Nexus One tomorrow and I'm very interested in it and the Android OS now

Much Much Much more to come, this isn't even the tip of the iceberg of what will be CES.

The Apple tablet excitement annoys the shit out of me. First everybody wants something tiny, now they want it bigger. "Oh fuck that, it won't fit in my pocket." "Oh this tablet is awesome; I can carry it in my messenger bag (no homo)."
#6
IMO, the key to the tablet devices is content. There has to be something that makes people say "Yeah, I want access to that but I don't want to carry around a computer for it and I don't want to deal with it on a tiny screen."

I like the idea of the tablet as we know it with the flip screen that rotates and has a physical keyboard instead of this slate which doesn't have a physical keyboard, you cant sit upright in your lap, etc. The PC tablet can be held like these "slates" but then turn into a laptop, it's the best of both worlds.
But yes I guess it is about the content, this iSlate is supposed to save print media

The nexus one, along with T-Mobile 7.2mbps network might be enough to make me cancel my contract and make the switch.

I'm coming from an iPhone, so damn near anything would be an improvement. The iPhone's poor network handling and reception, coupled with AT&T's network saturation issues (I'm in NYC) have led to a horrible experience. I want to get rid of this thing so badly.

Maybe I should clarify a bit though, reception was poor in fringe areas. Never dropped any calls in good coverage area.

That Lenovo Hybrid is pretty sweet! It run 7 in laptop mode and then some form of Linux I guess in tablet mode.

Yo that thing is hot! It's got resistive multi-touch which is a feat in and of itself, it's still pretty pre-production but this thing has potential.

Toshiba is announcing their TVs that have a cell processor in it. The Cell processor is the same processor that powers the Sony PS3 that Toshiba, Sony and IBM partnered to make. It's a ridiculously powerful multi-core parallel processor. IDK if the ones in the TV has 8 SPUs like the PS3, 8 SPUs is kind of like having an 8 core processor, except one of the cores is the main one and it controls the other ones in a slave master kind of way. Toshiba is saying that the Cell processor in their TVs is 143 times more powerful than the processor in your average HDTV. They plan on doing all sorts of stuff with it, like turning 2D in 3D, and connecting everything in your home to your HDTV, even the interwebs. The TVs also got LED backlight with 512 zones for localized dimming, 802.11n wifi, a 1TB HDD, Pandora, Netflix, and Wireless HD! It's sure to be expensive as FUCK!

For the people that don't know, Viliv is one of the best handheld PC companies out there. I've had the viliv S5 for over a year now and it comes everywhere with me. It's absolutely awesome.

I'm interested in seeing all the new TV announcements. I noticed Samsung has removed it's 8 series from the website. Also Vizio has a new 72" LED LCD coming out. Maybe we'll finally see something bigger than a 65" at some decent prices.

Apparently this year will not only be the year of the tablet but also the year of 3DTV. Am I the only one who could give two shits about 3d? Maybe it's cause I haven't seen any movie in 3d and I don't know what I'm missing or maybe it's cause I don't like the idea of wearing ugly ass glasses to watch TV.
Apparently every TV company is coming out with 3dTV sets and ESPN just announced a new channel ESPN3D along with some new thing from sony and the discovery channel. Is 3D really that good or are they forcing this down our throats to make us upgrade? I was hoping for bigger OLED screens maybe even monitor sized and more 4k resolution stuff I could two shits about 3D.
