Can you keep your cell phone #?

I heard a while back about being able to keep your cell phone number if you switch companies. My g/f is on Cingular right now and we want to do a plan on my Verizon account for both of us, but she would like to keep her number she's had for years.

If the phone is able to be in the same area code region, by Nov 24th you can do it. thats the date mandated by the FCC

Nov. 24th everything should be settled and you will be able to keep your same number by law when changing from one provider to another

On 11/24/03 Local Number Portability (LNP) takes affect for the top 100 markets. The rest of the country will not take affect until the spring of 2004. Nashville, TN is the #51 market, so on 11/24 you can take you number from Cingular and bring it to Verizon.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
