Blackberry Storm 2 9550 (Odin) Thread
Looks like we're getting close, and I'm more excited about this than the first release. Kevin over on Crackberry released some "mock" photos *ahem* of the upcoming Storm 9550, and it looks great. He keeps dropping hints here and there, so hopefully we'll get some solid news soon. Regardless, check out the link for yourself ...

a la BGR:
We’ve got some new info that leads us to believe the BlackBerry 9550 will be the model number of the BlackBerry Storm 2 due out later this year on Verizon and probably Vodafone. Besides a much better (hopefully) screen tech, the big news with the BlackBerry Storm 2 is the inclusion of Wi-Fi. Here’s a run down of the specifications for the BlackBerry 9550:
* CDMA 1xRTT/EVDO Rev. A
* Quad-band GSM/EDGE
* Single-band UMTS/HSDPA (2100MHz only)
* Wi-Fi b,g
* 3.2 megapixel camera
* 360×480 resolution capacitive screen
* OS 5.0

beat me to it...
Again, since I know most of you don't read thoroughly on the CB forums, but Kevin has insisted this is an EARLY release (almost like Alpha), so don't base your comments on anything yet, in terms of performance, or what have you. But I must say, the hardware itself looks ten fold better

yeah if final hardware/software/firmware is anything like the tour which i'm sure it will be, going to different apps and programs should be seamless. i played around with the tour and i think its their best one yet. amazing screen quality and performance is outstanding. i think ill be getting the tour however bc im still sold on a physical keyboard.

For sure.
My problems with the Storm (mind you I had it for only a month, and that was from the first day it was released), were the following:
Horribly slow (which has been somewhat addressed)
No wifi
Major memory leaks
Camera laggggggggged
Browsing was ok
Call quality (from the other callers end) was terrible - they always had trouble hearing me
Screen always clicked while in call, fucking things up
Battery life sucked
I know this phone is going to be great, so I'm stoked, if you can't tell Besides that, I loved my Storm as I thought it was a great device, and I miss it. Mainly because my current phone blows

if your compared the Storm compared to the storm 2 clicks screen. it seems like the storm 2 has less of a click/indent into the phone then the original. and that on the storm 2 the screen actually locks when it's off and hopefully on a call. i'm gad i couldn't upgrade last year and that i have waited to pick up a storm. i will probably be getting one once it is released. this is what the original storm should have been.

whoops, totally forgot about this thread, so I figured I should update...pics are courtesy of crackberry.com forums:

There have been several new videos if you look up Storm 9550 on youtube, with the latest one that was posted today being yanked due to violation (booooooooooooo!!!!) Looks like we might be seeing it sooner than later
The typing on this phone is supposed to be absolutely superb due to the new technology with the screen (talks about there being Piezo involved) and multi-press/touch IS there. Also, don't forget WiFi and flick scrolling

damn 5 min edit
In case you don't see it, the supposed release date is 10/14, so keep your fingers crossed! Also the Sholes and Touch Chocolate seem promising as well in their own right!

Corporate accounts are supposed to get it on 9/29. This piezo screen looks awesome. This phone will be great. I love that you can type fast. I almost smashed my Storm 1 on numerous occasions because the typing could not keep up. Hands down the most aggravating feature of this phone.
I just hope the initial software isn't a fuck story like the Storm 1.

ive seen u ppost over on crackberry since you hve the same user name and i am deffinitly getting this phone once it comes out.
with the new apps coming out in no time it will be better then a iphone in all aspects i believe. Rim just purchased a OS development company last month didn't they?

I have high hopes for this phone as well. Maybe I'll change from my 8900 to this when it becomes available.

It hasn't been released to B2B yet.
The latest we have is a potential in-stock date at Best Buy for 10/25, disguised under the LG Glance name with a retail of $599. People keep saying 10/19 is the date, but we'll see.

Comparison of an older Odin vs. a relatively newer build of the Odin

-Launch with OS 5.0
-16gb microSD card included
-2gb on board memory
-Bing Search App
-City ID App
I just wish Verizon would quick dragging us around and make an official announcement.

Personally I love it, but a few things to note:
The S2 click is very different (takes very little pressure)
There has been a bug in the pre-releases where the click has been disabled, so it's VERY possible an app will be created to do just that
