Lightbulb BlackBerry: PlayBook Tablet News & Discussion Thread

I have never really paid attention to tablets as I figured having a smartphone, laptop & tablet would be too much. However, my Dell XPS m1330 is ~4 years old but it still runs fine, so I was thinking about getting a tablet (which is cheaper than a laptop) for my web use (watching videos, social media ...) & just use my laptop for when a lot of typing is needed (like writing a report). Hopefully this will prolong my need to buy a new laptop as I have my eye on the new Dell XPS 13 ultrabook for $999.

My smartphone is not a BlackBerry so I cannot capitalize on all of the features & the 7" screen seems kind of small but it is on sale 60% off everywhere for only $199. I realize that the BlackBerry OS may be inferior to the others out there but now that the new 2.0 is compatible with Android it should be OK for someone who has basic tech needs (email, surf the web, GPS ...).

The other tablet in consideration is the Le Pan which has gotten rave reviews; the older 1 is also $199 but the newer 1 on Android 3.2 is sold out everywhere for $279.

If anyone has a PlayBook, could you please share your thoughts? Thanks!!

I have one. My brother gave it to me as a Christmas present.

It's pretty good, especially with all the software updates they've done. The main issue is a lack of good applications. Even my TouchPad has a much better selection.

Have a flyer, and I must say $200 for a playbook is a steal. Seriously considering one for home use only.

I just bought a Playbook this week and it's arriving next week. Got a good price on it so I'd figure I'd play with it and maybe flip it if I didn't like it. I don't really need a tablet though, I have easy access to a computer and my phone works fine for accessing internet/email but no flash capabilities, which the Playbook has. I don't have a BB either but never the less, I am looking forward to getting my hands on this thing and having some fun with it.

Kind of disappointed that this thread is so small though.
