How does this software work that came with it? Is there a way to enter contacts on your PC and sync it the Curve?

You should install the desktop manager and device manager...the discs that came with it are probably well outdated, but you can download them from the blackberry.com site.

For some reason, the latest version (4.5 I think) device and desktop manager are separate programs (if i recall correctly, they used to be in the same package/install). The software will allow you to sync your contacts, calendar, tasks, etc. between the device and most common email programs...I only use outlook so I don't know how well it syncs with other programs.

I can get hotmail on my curve, you need to setup the access via your hand held, or through your carriers BIS site (google your carrier and Blackberry Internet Service site).

Oh, and I have the normal hotmail account (non-premium).

go back through the thread...i think a bunch of stuff was mentioned.

I personally have:

- OS 4.5 (beta...much better web browser and comes with documents-to-go or whatever it's called, plus now with HTML email since they upgraded BIS to 2.5. You need OS 4.5 and up to get HTML email).

- beyond 411 (directory search..yellow pages, white pages, etc all based on location that you input at initial setup)
- Facebook
- Google maps
- gWhiz
- Gmail
- Wallet
- Weathereye

Plus check out bestskinsever.com for exterior protection.

Any bugs on your 4.5.?? version? I've read about a few depending on what version you are actually running.

No bugs on my current version (forgot which one and the phone is up in my bedroom...I think it's 4.5.0.42). The last version I had (.37 i think) had a UMA bug (would not work) and a severe memory leak problem (would go from about 14M free down to 4M for no reason...probably has something to do with the UMA since non-wi-fi models didn't have the severe memory leak if I can recall), and the version I had before that had a battery issue (would go from 100% power down to 14% in less than 12hrs with little usage). I think there's a .44 version out now, but since I haven't had any issues with .42 yet, I'm in no rush to update.

There's a couple versions of 4.5 out there for different phones, so it'll depend on which model you have...but always try for the latest. And I think 4.5 has been officially released for several models and a few carriers (.37 version), but not yet cingular or t-mo.

Facebook may be t-mo specific, or maybe at blackberry.com
Wallet is at blackberry.com
GWhiz (graphing calc, reference dictionary, flashcards game) at http://m.gwhizmobile.com/downloads (mobile link)
Google maps at www.google.com/gmm
Beyond411 and Weathereye I don't remember the site, so google it.

As for the 4.5 OS, I had to do a google search for it (search soemthing like "blackberry 4.5.0.42 or 4.5.0.44" or something. it's not official, so it may be available at a torrent or a rapidshare or soemthing like that.

btw, facebook is any carrier and if anyone has bugs... slow response, trackball or slow typing, check your "status" under options...

and free file or bites - free memory

15 - 20 is great, 10 or less do a soft reset every 2 weeks or so - solves almost everything (battery pull)

and delete your inbox

BTW, I don't know how many of you know, but you can reset your Curve in the similar fashion of pulling out your battery without actually pulling out your battery. It's similar to the "CTRL-ALT-DEL" for a computer...

Push and hold the ALT button on the left side of the keyboard
Push and hold the "aA^" button on the right side of your keyboard
Push and hold the DEL button on the right side of your keyboard

At some point you're holding all three keys at the same time, and it should reset your BB.

Also, if you want to go to the top or bottom of a page when you're in a browser, or even searching for messages in your email or SMS folders, push "t" to go to the top of a page, or "b" to go to the bottom.

The only bug i have in the facebook app is when I type a message or something...the text is white and the background is white, so you can figure out the problem there. I haven't found a solution yet, but not a big deal (you can move the cursor back through the message to see the letters).

I'm surprised no one has this on their BB...Great program, Live Search. Find damn near anything you want in your area, You can also localize your search for the zipcode of your choice, and it gives you maps, directions, traffic info, movie times and weather. Download it from your BB Browser at www.wls.live.com

i have another question. when viewing a browser on my phone, (bb curve) under a certain link i see a old page from a site that was just recently updated, however all the other links are updated.

when viewing on a friends (bb edge , from att, which seems to be the same as the curve) ....that link takes her to the updated page....same link, whats the difference between browsers that would contribute to this difference?

Not sure, but it might be a setting in your browser's options...

These are official releases...4.5 is out for only several models, but not for all (ie 8320 is still 4.2.2.338). You have to search for the beta versions if it hasn't been officially released yet.

do you guys find that any of the add-ed software lags your system? is it normal for a pretty decent restart/boot up time? 45 seconds to a minute? i bought and installed a theme on my new curve last night and after download my system actually shut-off and i had to remove the battery before i was allowed to restart.

45sec to a minute? That's actually quick! I'm closer to a minute and a half most of the time.

It probably has al ittle to do with the software installed, but I have yet to meet a smartphone that starts up rapidly.

For the Skype users check out www.iskoot.com. Free download and easy to use. Only caveat is when you roam outside of a data network area and you want to initiate a chat/call it can lock up on you. If you try to log out and log back in it will say mobile phone is already logged in with only a soft reset being able to fix it.

I think the 9000 series (bold, thunder, etc.) will be replacement models with 3G for the current series (curve, 8800, etc.). I don't know which model is to replace which model, but it'll all come together as they come out.

I'm thinking about getting a Curve 8310 soon, but wasn't going to get a data plan right away since it's about $30 extra per month. Will it be worth it? What will I be missing out on without a data plan? What features are still available without it?

uh, if no data plan you won't be able to use email or internet, but the basic PDA functions will be available.

I am contemplating selling my unlocked t-mo 8320 (which has wi-fi) for around $280 in a couple weeks, and was going to put it on ebay but will sell to you if you're interested.

Might as well just buy a . Yeah, there's not a whole lot of reason to buy the curve w/o data. What do you want it for?
