Blackberry Bold
Blackberry Bold
The heavily rumored new high-end Blackberry 9000 is finally out, not losing the numbers but adding a second name. Dubbed as Blackberry Bold, the new messaging smartphone strives to deliver much more than what is expected form a smartphone messenger - or at least what is expected form a Blackberry one anyways.
The new Blackberry Bold features a large TFT display with the same half-VGA resolution as the Apple iPhone's - 480 x 320 pixels. The Bold messenger packs in a new full QWERTY keyboard and runs on the latest Blackberry OS 4.6.
The Blackberry Bold makes use of a 624MHz processor and 1GB of on-board storage. It also has a microSD memory card slot with full support for 8GB microSDHC cards and a promise for 16GB support, one such large capacity cards become market available.
Identical to Blackberry 8830 in terms of size, the new Blackberry Bold is the allegedly the first Blackberry smartphone to feature tri-band HSDPA support besides the quad-band GSM/EDGE one. The Blackberry Bold is definitely is packed with goodies as it also flaunts an integrated GPS receiver and Wi-Fi.
A pair of stereo speakers, a 2 megapixel camera with LED flash, Bluetooth and a USB port all fill up the feature set.
Additionaly, as a customizing option, the future Blackberry 9000 users will also be able to buy replaceable leather-like backplates that come in a range of colors.
The BlackBerry Bold 9000 will be available around the world beginning this summer.

Rogers releasing a WiFi device... I didnt think it would ever happen
This has to peeve off the Apple guys though. Rogers has been dragging their feet coming to an agreement with Apple and then they jump right into bed with Blackberry. It wont surprise me if the Bold beats iPhone to market.

The latest version on this phone is going to be similar in the beta 4.5 OS (hasn't been released yet, but I have it) and you control a pointer with the trackball. I wouldn't say it is anywhere near the same experience as the iPhone when it comes to web browsing, but for what it is, it's decent.
The only reason I see myself getting an iphone would be if I used the web on my phone much more often than I do, which is why I am sticking with BB for now.

I will definitely test this one out when it comes out. If the iPhone could do everything business wise that the BB could I would drop my 8820. The browser on the iPhone is slick compared to BB's browser.

Same goes for my Treo 755P. Guy I work with has the iPhone but it seems like such a toy.

$300 doesn't sound outrageous, especially in light of what people were paying for the original I-Phone. Does anyone have any idea when it will be released other than a general summertime release?
Blackberry Bold release dates, pricing leak out

Those of you dying to get your QWERTY on with RIM's hot new Blackberry Bold can start marking your calendars and stashing cash under the cushions -- release dates and pricing info have hit the tubes this morning. As expected, AT&T will get the Bold first in July for $300, while Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile customers will have to wait until September. Oddly, T-Mo subs will have to cough up an extra $50, which seems a little unfair. Of course, these aren't official dates and prices, so things are likely to change, but we'd say everything seems in the ballpark, wouldn't you

my upgrade date is sometime september/october with t-mobile...it's actually sooner since it's 22 months. I started out with a pearl and upgraded (myself, not through t-mobile) to an 8320, so hopefully this thing will come out for t-mo just in time for me to upgrade and still sell my 8320 to offset some of the cost (I could probably get around $250-300 for it). If the bold is $300 with t-mo, then the only thing it's costing me is the 2 year contract extension.
by this time the new iphone will be out too, so i could always defect, but unless there's a convincing upgrade to the iphone, i doubt it.

I switched over to the 8820 from the Curve. It take come time to get used to the smaller keyboard but that was not a big deal. I personally like the 8820 much more even w/o the camera function. WIFI FTMFW

Any update on the Bold?
NO one at the various phone kiosks has a clue when they'll be out. One guy at AT&T said "soon", whatever that means. I'm on Sprint so I guess I'll have to wait a while.
Yes, I DID read about the July/September release dates but things might have changed
