Blackberry 8800 Official Thread
I'm dying for this phone. I want the one without the camera, code-named "Indigo".
Although I don't look forward to leaving Verizon for Cingular, for this phone, I'm willing to make the change. I just hope Cingular's service is close to as good as Verizons.
Anyway, I don't know what the launch date is, but everything I've heard has said 1st quarter. I don't want to wait till the END of March for a BB though... So worst case scenario, I work with the Pearl (TMO :gross: )

This is the first BB that I've ever actually been interested in trying out...
Word is that it will be available to Cingular by Late Jan., but who really knows.
My plan with Verizon is also up at the end of Jan. and I am looking forward to trying this out if it's released around that time. Frankly, I can't wait to leave Verizon, even after being with them for 6 or 7 years.

my friend actually has tmobile with his pearl and is more than happy with the device and service (again, service area is the factor)
i too am waiting for the 8800... but i want the one with the camera, which is rumored for april release...
what is the major differences between the 8800 camera version and the pearl? ive been trying to find major differences just besides suretype keyboard vs qwerty keyboard and overall shape/size of device and wifi? i might just pick up a pearl in the meantime and then try out the 8800 camera version when it comes out.
The rumor is that the 8800 Indigo is dropping Feb 12th, but won't have 3G or Wi-Fi.
I'm really disappointed about the lack of Wi-Fi.

I would also like to actually feel the buttons on the 8800 before purchasing it.
If this thing doesn't come out soon I'll probably end up with the 8703 too.
I actually just got the 8703e delivered to my door about an hour ago. Got it through the Sprint Employee Referral program (Sero). Pretty sweet phone. Can't wait for it to be charged enough so I can start inputting phone numbers and calender info...

^ Yeah, I just need to get my webmail while local in case anyone is looking for me. So far it's been easy to setup... but I've only done the basic stuff. We'll see how the email stuff goes in a few minutes
Oh well, that was quick! Phone is on its way back since you have to pay the additional $40 for the Blackberry data plan even if you sign up using the Sprint Sero plan... so I have a Treo 700p on the way instead and the Blackberry will get dropped off at FedEx Tuesday.
^ Yup, $40 over the voice plan to get the Blackberry Internet/Data service. You do not need to pay this with any other phone (Treo, Motorola Q, etc)... only Blackberry charges the additional fee.

At least with places like mailstreet - BES is $10/month, but goodlink is $20/month.
I sampled all the devices before picking the blackberry...700wx - slow and crashed all the time. 700p was good. I ended up with the BB because of its integration with exchange, lower overall cost, scroll wheel and reliability. It hasn't crashed once...knock on wood.

I was looking at the 8800 or the BlackJack through Cingular, and ended up with a 700p through Sprint instead... No justification for the extra $30/month for me.
BTW, you'll enjoy your 700p just as much!
^ Cool, good to know. I was thinking about swapping it out again for the Motorola Q... but after reading bad things about that I'll just stay with the 700p which should be here tomorrow!
It's out

What? This can’t be. It’s the official release date and Cingular’s actually prepared for it? WEIRD. But really good news coming via Cingular’s official web site, folks. The BlackBerry 8800 is now available to order with free overnight shipping from Cingular.com to keep those wait times down. We’ve shown you pricing, but just to refresh, on a 2-year contract with the $50 rebate, you’re looking at a $299 investment (and, according to Cingular’s site, a lovely 15% in savings). Go go right ahead and bask in the fact that Cingular finally did something right.
I got the sweetheart TMobs deal, $29.99 for 1500 mins, $19.99 for unlimited blackberry, no contract. They try every few months to sell me off my plan, but to no avail.
Only downside is I have to purchase devices, no free upgrades. So now, where do I get an unlocked 8800 for cheap?

I saw the 8800 yesterday at Cingular and was not impressed. I was hoping it would be Black like the pictures that have been all over the internet instead it's a dark blue color. The 8800 also doesn't have Wifi capability. I use the Wifi on my i730 all the time.
Eventhough I do not have a camera on my i730, I would have liked to see one on this model.
I hear another version of this phone will be hitting T-mobile in the spring with both a camera and Wifi...anybody know if that's true. If so i'll wait for that one.

From what I understand, a wifi/camera version of the 8800 is 4-6 months away.
Cingular has a 90-day exclusivity agreement that will go through May...
Ordered the 8703 yesterday. Its my first blackberry and it will be my primary cell phone, so I'm a bit worried about the size.
Does anyone have one of these (87xx or 88xx) and slip it into their pocket? or do you always need the holster?

The 8700x will be just fine in slacks, but a little tight in jeans. I had an 8700g for a while, but was a little dissapointed and went back to the Pearl.
But, I'm on the Pearl now, and a BB convert once again. I do look forward to picking up the wifi+camera model of the 8800, which I'll be holding out for.
BTW... these are going for astronomical prices on eBay right now!

I downloaded Google maps which works well. Also, i believe my 8703 and the 8800 have build in GPS, so I want to try downloading bbmaps, which is free.
Anyone know of a free spellchecker?

So, can you use the GPS feature of the phone without having to pay per use?

Yes, the functionality is completely free, but you still pay for your data usage just like you would for any other network app.

VZW charges $45 extra for any pda/bb/smartphone.
