Bad to charge batteries when not empty?

Hey guys is it bad to charge a camera battery if it's only 75% FULL? I took a couple of pictures today, but tomorrow is Grad Nite and I want to make sure my battery is charged so I can take as many pics as possible. So yeah, is it bad to charge a not nearly empty battery?

From what I understand, it's not so bad to charge from 75% to 100%.
It is considered a no-no to leave it on the charger for extended periods of time once it reaches 100%.

I've been curious about this myself over the years and have never really gotten a definitive answer. Hopefully someone else can confirm or reject my understanding...

Assuming it's lion, charge memory is not a problem, but it's my understanding that a battery, will last only so many cycles. Each time you fully charge the battery you begin a new cycle, so not making full use of each cycle( fully depleting the battery) means the battery will yield less hours of use in the long run. Nicad and NimH batteries overtime loose their charging capacity and are prone to develop charge memories, these types of batteries shouldn't be charged unless they are fully depleted to get prevent this.

even if you leave your battery on the home charger the phone has a smart chip inside that will stop it from charging unless the battery goes below a cretin percentage..Want the best battery life for your phone keep away from car charger they will ruin your battery twice as fast as a standard home charger...

Charging a battery that is not empty DOES damage your battery. Basicly if you keep charging it it wont be able to hold a charge for as long as it should and may eventually just not catch a charge anymore. Mostly common on Motorola phones. A Battery should fill up as slow as possible in order to give it the longest life time possible. Chargers that charge your phone fast are also bad for your battery.

Cingular (AT&T) is the BEST for a lot of reasons but especially because all of our Charger accessories full your battery 1/2 immediatley (that way if your phone is DEAD and you NEED to make a call you dont have to wait for it to charge) and then slowly fills it up to its full capacity. That way it doesnt damage the battery and it fills it up as good as possible. And ontop of that all of our accessories come with a 1 year warranty for damages or malfunctions!!

wasn't this more of an issue with the older style phones of the 90s, ala zack morris' brick phone?

I agree....Lion batteries do not have a memory but they do have a certain number of charges they can be charged for.

It doesn't matter if you charge the battery. I charge my phone battery everyday. I've had this battery for over a year already and if it dies now. I'll just spend 30 ish bucks on it. It's not significant enough for me to care. =]
