I'm trying to choose something new myself. Carrier-wise, I'm leaning toward Verizon because I travel out in Bufu Nowhere on a somewhat regular basis and analog roaming capability would be nice for emergencies. Problem is, that even on the CDMA carriers, the cool phones appear to have all ditched alanolg now.

I'm a total noob at this stuff so feel free to correct me if my assumptions are wrong. My overal motivation is that my parents just got new phones that are cooler than mine and damnit, that's just against the natural order of things!

Billiam - Analog systems will be phased out by 2006 (verizon). I read a while ago that the FCC only required it until 2006 and then verizon had earleir this year confirmed that it would be taken out by that time. I would guess you will still have the best coverage with verizon - only problem is they are expensive

Thanks for the info. At least I now know that I'm doing apples/apples comparisons when I look at coverage maps.

Yes - but the verizon maps show analog also - so remember a lot of it could go away next year, although, personally i doubt they will just turn off the analog system without first implementing digital on those towers....who knows..
