AR&T DSL internet question...

I am looking at adding internet to my condo. I have no need for a phone line since my wife and I have cell phones. I have some questions on the speeds and if I can combine it with a cell phone plan. I have the USB internet card attached to my work cell phone and that is what we have been using at home, but we are looking at getting a MAC desktop and so it's time to get a DSL line since I can't have the USB internet card here all the time.

1) Is there a noticable difference between the Basic, Express, Pro, and Elite? It will be used for basic internet, very little downloading.
2) Can you combine DSL service with a cell phone, are there any specials?
3) I am against Time Warner, but what else might you consider?
4) DSL Basic starts at $19.99, after taxes, fees, etc., about what would I expect to pay per month?

I'm not sure if there is a Internet and Cell phone bundle. They have a 3G/DSL bundle but thats probably not exactly what you are looking for.

1) As for regular surfing, you should go with Express instead of Basic. The difference in surfing improves dramatically between Basic and Express and it gets less noticeable once you hit Pro and Elite. Expect download speeds of around 100 to 150kbps from a good server if you ever do download.

2) Look around, there might be new bundles as people are moving more to cellphones. None that I know of right now.

3) Don't know whats offered in Texas.

4) 19.99 is actually pretty expensive for Basic. If its AT&T there might be a 14.99 promotion for Basic and 19.99 for Express. Expect to pay about ~$5 more for each plan.

1) If you're comfortable w/ the cell card speeds then the basic (assumption is 1.5mbps) is probably fine

2) DSL requires a telephone line at the residence, in some places you can get DSL without a land line, but it costs roughly $10 more per month

3) Cable > DSL anyday

4) ~$25 - $35

Personally I dislike DSL, I switched to cable years ago and will never go back.. I have to have faster internet.. My internet bill is about $70 a month

Download Speed: 50859 kbps (6357.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 2137 kbps (267.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

1. Go with basic if you just need to check email or web surfing without video streams. I think basic is 768Kbps, Express is 1.5Mbps, Pro 3Mbps, and Elite is 6Mbps down. Up is probably like 500K to 2Mbps.

Just go to att.com and see what they offer. Never hurts to ask questions and ask for deals until they tell you no.

Go with at least Express. If you get basic you might as well get dial-up.

2. dunno.

3. dunno

4. probably about $25 or so. i think my plan is about $29 or so, and i pay under $35 each month.

If you have AT&T wireless, you can do combined billing. Also, you can order what they call "Naked DSL" which is DSL w/o phone service. This is what I'm going to do when I move in a couple months.

There is a difference between Basic and Express, but if all you do is e-mail and web surfing, you probably won't notice too much between Express, Pro, and Elite. I mean, they are faster, but it all depends on what you do. I have the Pro package, and 90% of the time it's plenty of bandwidth for what I do. Like others have said, if you are comfortable using the wireless USB card you have, Express would be the way to go and will be more than enough to suit your needs.
