Anyone know if a Sprint cell tower is down in my area?
I know a few of you guys work for Sprint. My cell phone is getting no or little signal today. It always has had great signal. It's just today, & everyone at my job who has Sprint has the same problem. I called & they couldn't tell me. 33433 Boca Raton FL
Thanks
Thanks
I just had that happen about a month ago. The local store said they were working on the tower. Couldnt get or make calls. Really pissed me off because it was going on when I wrecked my G. Couldnt make a single call, was very pissed. The phone didnt work for a week near my workand got no kind of credit.
Unless you are at the very edge of town, one tower going out shouldn't significantly affect your ability to have service or to place a call. The phone can "see" several nearby towers all at the same time.
Also the more a cellsite is used, the more people that access that tower, the coverage area will shrink. If you have a freeway outside your work building, if there is a traffic jam outside, you may notice less coverage cause everybody may be using their phones and more people are in one place. It's just the way the technology works.
Also they fool around with aiming the antennas in different directions to change the coverage from time to time. Technical stuff that is way over my head.

I have sort of a related question Ken.
Is there any way for you to find out if Sprint is building a tower in my town? One of the local yokels in town told me the other day that Sprint was building a cell tower to add coverage to our area.

The Sprint PCS coverage maps don't indicate my area as a site of future coverage, so I have my doubts. Townies seem to be duped frequently by rumor.

Sprint doesn't have to build a new cellsite, we can adjust the current coverage, add additional coverage as repeaters or coax using something other than a tower, or co-located on someone's tower. A lot of those cellphone towers you see have more than one cellular provider's antennae on them.
