Anyone ever set up a VPN Server on OS X Lion Server?

Title says it all... Need to establish a VPN server so I can remote in securely. I would have thought the process to enable this would have been easy. Such a n00b.

Did you enable VPN passthrough on your router?

Getting a VPN server to work when the server is behind a nat firewall is a pain in the ass. I suggest you give logmein or gotomypc a shot if all you need is remote control and simple file exhange. If you really want VPN get a router that can host it. Open source router firmware like dd-wrt can host vpn and you can find a decent dd-wrt capable router for about $100.

It works inside the firewall... I am trying to track this down. Might be a NAT issue, like doopstr said. Ghey.

I use the PPTP VPN option in ddwrt. It's extremely easy to setup

Open up port 4500 (UDP) as well.

For PPTP you can open up 1723 (TCP)

Edit Host Name

So you changed the name of your server to match the external host name of your network?

Simply followed Ken's instructions. The host name was previously set up as squall.local, and I simply said I was running a VPN, so it changed itself to squall.private.

And the rest is history.
