Anyone from D.C. VA MD area, please help me

Hi, everyone. I was in New York Chinatown yesterday and fell in love with Sony Ericsson W800 when I saw it. Anyway, I was going to get it for $200 with 1 year Cingular contract (my T-mobile contacted ended last month) but I had to give up my number since I have VA area code (703). I really want that phone, but I don't think there's any cheap store in D.C. Chinatown. Does anyone know good shop that sells W800 w/ Cingular contract? So that I can pay less and keep the same number?

Why can't you just get the number ported? I thought that was the whole point of number portability was to allow people to keep their numbers no matter where in the country they went or which carrier they went with?

I've asked around many shops there and all of them said I can't port my old number because my old number is 703? I think shops in Chinatown are not directly connected with cingular. They also had some policy that I have to keep the new number for 6 months so they can get their commission or something

You can keep your number. I see no reason why you'd need to change numbers.

That's what they said first. Then, when they noticed that I have 703 area code, they said I have to start with new ones.

That's the one what I wanted to make sure of. Thanks! Guess I have to stick with crappy phones here.
