Angry Anti Virus software

I was installing the new Norton AntiVirus on my Win98 PC. After the installation, my video driver is so corrupted that I could only do 640x480. I had to rebuild my PC! Crappy NAV!

Any suggestion on anti-virus software (or what do you use)? I'm going to give NAV a 2nd (and last) try. Fortunately I have two big hard drives that I can backup and restore data fairly easily. However all programs need to be re-installed. It's been 3 hours and I'm still updating my OS and re-installing software...

I've never seen Norton do that. What brand PC do you have? If its a clone, you could just reload the drivers. I use Computer Associates InoculateIT Personal Edition. Its now called eTrust Antivirus. You can download a trial at www.my-etrust.com. After the trial, its only $20 for the 1st year.

It used to be. I got it when it was free, so now I have free definition updates to the old program for life. The new program (which is currently nearly identical to the old one) is $20 for newcomers. Eventually I'm sure the new program will be revised or improved at which time I'll switch to it. Unti then, I'm happy with IPE.

My PC is a non-brandname clone. I tried reinstalling the video driver. After the first reboot, it was fine. However subsequent reboots would just hung, forcing a cold-boot (power off, then on). Then Windows would only start in 640x480.

Should have gone into safe mode and uninstall NAV. Did you use NAV2K or NAV2K1?

Thumbs up AVP is good

I have Anitviral Toolkit Pro.....it's free for the first month or 3 months....but you can d/l it at www.avp.ch. It's a very good program. Thing is you gotta buy registered "keys" before the end of the trial run. You only have to pay once and when the "keys" are about to expire you can e-mail them to someone on the website and they'll send you new ones (I hope). Also, you get free viral database and program updates as long as your "keys" are not expired.
