Absolute best way to Format Hard Drive?

I have been trying to fix my girlfriends computer for some time now. I think it must have a virius or something. I am really good with this stuff and would trust myself with mine but her mom uses it for business and dont want to take the chance. It use to be easy before. Could just put in a start up disk and type c: format I think. Now I think it is something like fdisk right? Then something with partitions. Well I dont have an actual XP disk just 2 emachine recovery disks. If anyone can help me with the steps to do this that would be awesome. I already had her put everything she wants saved on a CD.

Thank you in advance,

Dave

or....since you have the eMachine recovery disks, and assuming it is the correct machine for the media you have, the recovery process should automatically format the existing OS/Files/Drive in preparation for a new OS install.

The emachine recovery CD should have an option to reformat when you're reinstalling.

good call. Not sure if she is still in her warantee period though. Did not even try the disks. Thoght it was basicly just the operating system with some additional drivers and free software trials.
