I was thinking about purchasing this LCD from costco. I would like your opinions on this style of TV. Is it worth the money? The picture quality was pretty crisp and I was really diggin this TV.
My HDTV Direct TV is getting hooked up this weekend and I can't wait

Can't be wrong with any Sony TV. I have an older Grand Wega model(WE620) and the PQ is excellent.
Discovery HD has just launched their Canadian channel last week. I couldn't believe how great those pictures are on my TV.

i dun wanna crap on the tv but a friend of mine has a sony 55" lcd projection and the picture is crap. the tv takes like a few minutes to "warm" up cause lcd is really dull when cold. when watching regular tv the picture quality is so grainy. the picture on your tv must be a HDTV feed as it looks clearer. but when i saw my other friends lcd(not projection) it was so much better. i think the only projection i would consider its a DLP. other than that i would stick to lcd or plasma. my advice is to go take a look at it in person and view different video sources. regular tv, hdtv and dvd. Most likely an hd feed will make the tv look awesome but most programming is not HD and the picture might really suck for those.

buy it from costco, and when you get home, make a copy of your receipt and tape it to the back of the tv. costco will take back any tv, at any time for any reason and give you back exactly what you paid with the original receipt. so if you buy it for $1800 today and come pixells go bad, tv craps out, or you just don't like it...bring it back, and they give you cash, $1800.
but copy and save the receipt, cause the ones they give you fade over time.
BTW great TV, you'll love it

I'm not sure how they do it, but this is what I'm thinking...
...they buy at such large volume from companies like, in this case Sony, they probably worked out a deal where... they bascally get the products down a lot lower than say... Best Buy's or Circuit City... But only because they buy as such large volume, At the same time, they have so many stores and selling so many things (EVERYTHING!), that they'll always be making a ton of money, sure there will always be guys like us that will take advantage of their policy, but most people don't.
....and don't forget, just the money they generate each year on memberships alone makes up a huge amount of $$$

exactly how they do it.
they have agreements with the manufacturers that if they are returned, they must take it back for credit, so costco can offer that deal to the members.
all membership money is straight profit, and that also helps.
like you said, very few abuse the policy, the only thing there is a limit on is desktop and laptop computers, they get a 6 month return policy, because of the abuse of the policy.
i bought a $2500 breitling and it wasn't keeping accurate time for some reason, so 2 years later, got all my money back, no questions asked
i was a manager at costco for 5 yrs, so no BS on what i wrote, just a really good, unheard of elsewhere policy.
don't sleep on costco, they sell more plasmas and lcd than ANY other retailer, therie selection may not be as extensive, but there is no junk

I'm not defending Monster, but the cables at the place you posted are pretty much the same price as Monster stuff. At least they were for the items I randomly checked (DVI-to-HDMI). Perhaps they're slightly better cables for the same cost compared to the "series 400" Monster stuff you find at most retailers?
I have the 42" version Scrib has as well. It is a decent TV for the money. There are faults -the image gets blocky watching regular TV, it takes a long time to warm up, it is 720p native - does not support 1080p, and it has the LCD projection screen door effect up close, but overall I'm pretty happy.
Another option is the Samsung DLP, which I think has a slightly better image quality but personally I don't like the DLP rainbow effect so I went with the Sony.
Overall, I think you will be pretty happy. I much prefer my 57" CRT RPTV as the image quality is far superior, but this TV is pretty decent nonetheless and much more space efficient.
Here is a picture of my TV. I primarily use it for gaming.

their prices aren't cheaper, but the craftsmanship is a whole lot better... I have some myself... the minute you see them, right away, just from visual... you just know they're better quality stuff...
below is a picture of mine... isn't exactly the best picture... cause it was taken with my cell. phone..

In fact, before I bought my Samsung DLP, I had purchased a Philips 30" widescreen TV from Costco, then almost a year later I bought my Samsung, I didn't know what to do with the Philips... My roommate half jokingly said... "...why don't you return it? you bought it from Costco, right?" So, I did... I didn't have my receipt, they kinda frawned on that... but they still cashed me out..
Has anyone checked out the KDS-R60XBR1 or KDS-R50XBR1?
I saw one in person in Circuit City and was blown away by the SXRD based Sony's !!

Just got home with the T.V.
Im going to set it up and connect it to my computer so I can browse AZINE on my 50" LCD !!!
I will be lounging on my couch with a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse
I will take pics tommorow when everything is setup. with azine as my homepage.
My goal is to play any PC videogame ie: BF2 on my LAPTOP from my couch on 50 inches of glory!
The desktop PC tower is waaaay to big and doesn't look right in my living room next to my TV, so I got a gaming laptop knowing I would need an entertainment/multimedia setup w/ a PC
The laptop is a P4 HyperThread 3.2ghz (1.2 ghz ddr2 pc4200) - (radeon x600 256mb video card). Somehow I don't think I will be leaving the house much in the next few days.

FYI, I had the 60" version of the higher model and returned it a month after I bought it. The TV had an unbelievable picture, but there were two problems that I just could't deal with. One was screen door effect (SDE). This is inherent to all LCD TVs. On certain screens it looks like you're watching TV through a screen door. Some people never see this... I did, and it drove me nuts. Another problem was motion artifacts. Basically on any 1080i HD broadcasts, especially football, when the camera would move quickly the screen would get very pixlized and blocky. It would only happen for a split second, but it drove me nuts after a while.
Not sure if the motion problem is as bad on the 50" since it gets worse as the screen gets bigger, but the SDE drove me nuts.... and for how much I paid for the TV, I had to return it.
I personally do not see rainbows on DLPs... so we are currently watching a Samsung DLP 50" which has a better picture then the almost twice as expensive Sony, with no SDE and no motion artifacts. When the 2006 TVs come out I'll find a new TV and get that as our big one....

Monster Cables are overprices and overhyped. Save money and get the cables online. I bought my cables from www.l-com.com. One of the guys on the AVS Forums actually "dissected" and HDMI cable as well as one from L-Com and compared the quality, shielding, etc. The cable from L-Com was just as good as the Monster. Picture quality was just as good as well.... and the cable from L-Com was like $35 compared with $150 for the Monster!!
So save some money and stay away from Monster....
We were so close to buying this T.V....http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Toshiba_62HM84
Then for some reason my father had some idea that he could get it cheaper and now hes still looking for a cheaper price....It HAS to be atleast 60' because the room it will be going into is very big...right now we have a 40' tube TV and need to squint to see the program guide when sitting on the couch...
Whats a good 60'+ T.V that isnt too expensive yet still puts out a clear picture? Preferrably projection...

I'm telling you guys... wait until the 2006 TV's come out if you want to go the 1080p route. The only current 1080p TV that supports that resolution via HDMI is the HP DLP's. All other are via the VGA port. So basically, the only way to get true 1080p is to have a pretty heavy duty Home Theater PC connected via the VGA port. Wait until the 06's come out this summer so you can get 1080p through HDMI. Check out the AVS Forums for a ton of good reading and info...

I am finally buying myself a NICE TV

50" screen to browse AZINE
