Is this 20" LCD monitor any good?

I just bought myself one, i may ebay it off but the deal was too good to pass up. They go for over 1k on ebay

Just ordered a new Dell 2000FP 20" LCD Monitor for $759 Shipped plus tax.

Anyone know if this is a good monitor? Should i ebay it, or keep it?

YES its a kick-ass monitor, I'm looking at one right now ..... there is one catch...... you have to run this monitor at 1600x1200 resolution to get the absolue best result. Otherwise text/graphics will be blurry. Also optimal is running DVI...... I cannot stress how much this helps - makes everything sharper, brighter, and clearer.

I ordered mine only about a month ago..... imagine my horror when I saw the price cut today........ :< :< I emailed Dell to ask if there was anything they could do for me, seeing how I got mine recently, and they said no....

well if youre a big into graphics (like I am) - you will absolutely love this monitor. I absolutely think its the brightest, sharpest, clearest image possible - certainly the best I've ever seen. My friend had one, and after I saw it I just had to get one..... it had that much of an effect on me. But like I said - it would be foolish to not run 1600x1200 on this monitor (since that is its native resolution) - and ideally you want to run full DVI.

hope that helps you make your decision.....

yea i would advise on getting a 1900FP instead because its newer than the 2000FP and has better specs...

e.g. 1900 has better contrast, and refresh times which are key to an LCD's performance. The 1900FP is a rebadged, OEM Samsung 191T thats highly rated and very sleek looking too.

I found that I couldn't afford the 1900FP last October so I opted for a 1702FP 17" and still very pleased with my purchase.

Oh forgot to mention...... another thing that's really cool about the 2000FP... it has S-video and composite video inputs. AND - it has PIP.... so usually when I surf, I have a little window (4 sizes available - small, medium, large, and full-screen) at the top-right of my screen, where Brooke Burke appears ....... (have the satellite feed hooked straight into the monitor, through S-video) - this is a great feature!

However, due to the insane native resolution, video inputs look the sharpest at the smallest PIP setting....... at fullscreen, it doesn't look too good. oh well, I ain't complaining.

$720 shipped.... not much less than the 20"...... but like Kavextrax said, it has better contrast ratio....and is a newer model.... I inquired with Dell today also whether the price had gone down at all on this one, they said no.

oh yeah that price was with a 20% off they had going last week...... I don't know for sure if you can get that price right now.....

1900FP if youre a bargain hunter can be had for low $600s, quite a steal compared to the real samsung 191t which is $799+ in retail outlets. The only difference is tilt ability, which is not a big problem at all.

The prices of these LCDs have dropped fast these past few months so I wouldn't worry for those of you who missed the deals.

yeah I wouldn't worry either....... I'm sure Dell will drop the price of the 1900FP to like, $250 in a month or so...... DAMNIT!!!!!!!! ok I'm exaggerating a bit........ but seriously the prices will just continue to come down..... it's incredible.

Well - I got the 1900FP a couple of days ago - and I'm just writing you guys to let you know I'm sending it back. Here's why:

I replaced my old 21" CRT with this 19" LCD. Obviously the screen is smaller - but it looks like, considerably smaller than the 21" I had. Also - the stand is too high. My old monitor used to be at eye-level, this one is about 2-3" higher (I'm measuring the bottom edge of the display) - and is not adjustable. On top of all this, text that should be PURE WHITE is showing up with a yellowish tinge. I mean seriously there is a BIG difference between the picture of this monitor and the 20.1" 2000FP I have on my other comp. So, I am returning this monitor, and getting another 2000FP, for basically the same price (due to the recent price drop)... just FYI.

The 2000FP is at eye-level, it has a bigger screen that looks much closer to a 21" CRT than this one.... actually I should measure it to find out how close it is...... ok well I can't find a measuring tape, I'll have to do it later. Anyways..... that's the deal here.

oh yeah I'd like to add - the height of the screen is a pretty small factor - not the biggest one - also the yellowish text.... I haven't installed my other video card with DVI yet - and am only running Analog output right now - I am thinking that running DVI will help with that issue - so it's probably not fair of me to compare the picture quality with the 2000FP running DVI. The biggest problem I have with this monitor is the small screen size, at least smaller than I had expected.

In terms of sharpness/clarity/brightness - I can tell you that I am completely content with the 2000FP - and I have no complaints. Having to run 1600x1200 all the time MIGHT be the source of a "complaint" from me - but assuming you have the video hardware to run at that resolution without issue, then it's not a problem - and if you think the text is too small - you COULD choose a larger font size...... Much of the audio/graphics editing I do only welcome having the increased resolution, and I've always been kind of a resolution freak. Once I get the additional 2000FP - I will surely have to try running both of them on my other computer, can you imagine a 3200x1200 widescreen desktop. At least once in a while... too bad that one of them would have to be run at analog video.

DVI might help the 1900FP's picture quality issues I'm experiencing, but it will not help the size.....

I just got my 1900FP three days ago, and the screen is incredible.

I am running DVI with my new 128 GeForce 4 Ti4200 card that I picked up over the Black Friday sale, and the display is VERY sharp. I highly recommend it! Also, I have read that the 2000FP is incredible, but it actually looks kind of worse than the 1900FP, because of the extra plastic. (Look on Dell's website to compare.)

There are a few minor complaints that I do have about this monitor though.
1. Minor ghosting - ghosting is a major problem with LCDs, especially for hardcore gamers with games that process faster than the monitor can "refresh". This is also a problem with some movies and whatnot. This results in a "ghost" effect that kind of leaves a trail when it can't catch up. Though it is minor with the 1900FP, there was virtually none with a CRT monitor. If you're looking to buy a LCD, make sure you get one with a good response time. The 1900FP has a pretty decent one, but watch out if you are a hardcore gamer.

2. No height adjust (as delobbo mentioned) or tilt (like KavexTrax mentioned). This can pose as a slight problem for some. I have to adjust my chair pretty high for "optimal ergonomic use," and my table just barely allows me to adjust high enough before my lap hits the bottom (of the keyboard drawer, or whatever you call it). The tilt is not a major problem, but it could be more practical with word documents, so that you can type all on one page. (You tilt it 90 degrees, and the screen and correspondingly change, for those who don't know what it is).

Other than that though, the monitor is fabulous!

If you guys want some pics of any part or anything, just let me know and I can try and get some up for you ASAP!
