15" lcd monitor as kitchen tv idea

my wife's birthday is coming up at the end of this month.
here is one of my ideas...

find a good, reasonably priced 15" or 17" lcd monitor + external tv tuner to serve as our kitchen tv.

wall mounted, of course....

any recommendations or suggestions? i've been looking into cnet.com.

actual lcd tv's are still a bit too pricey, even for the 15".

I got one for about $320 shipped about 8 months ago. Sceptre 15" (I think that's the brand). Came with a remote and everything. It also has S-video inputs, stereo sound, etc. It's really a computer monitor with a built in TV tuner but it's working perfectly as a TV. The two speakers aren't extremely powerful... but it does the job. Right now we just have it on a regular coax cable into the TV. It works great, clear as anything... and it was cheap. Pretty much everything I was looking for. Oh yeah.. we put it in the kitchen as well.....

According to the specs it does not have a built in TV tuner... so how would you use it for a TV?

hey juniorbean,
i was planning on getting an external tv tuner for the lcd monitors that did not have one built in. of course, that adds approximately $70-100.

i did come across the sceptre models. which one do you have?
$320 is a great price... i think that would be perfect for us if i could find it now.

thanks for your input.

she's been talking about how it's a pain to watch tv from the kitchen, while cooking or baking. so i thought i'd make it easier, especially when she likes to watch the cooking channels.

or maybe i want the lcd tv.

Sorry for the delay in responding guys...

Yup, that's the one. I got it from justdeals.com (I don't think they carry it anymore). The final price was actually $317 shipped. I had found a coupon online, so basically I got free shipping.

Quality is good, picture is good, it's perfect for the kitchen. We bought it in July and it's flawless so far.

I had read some reviews on it before I bought it and people were using it in their cars for GPS systems off of a laptop (guess the laptops had small screens), some were using it as TVs, etc... and not one review I read had a problem... so for $317 I took the chance
