Tucson reacting to Lute Olson's retirement
News of Lute Olson's retirement spread fast across Tucson.
Longtime University of Arizona announcer Dave Sitton has seen Olson go through it all.
"The great rides, the heartbreak, the national championships, the final hours, the craziness on Fourth Avenue. It's just been a great package," says Sitton.
Sitton adds, "It's going to be a lot different now. The big question is what will Arizona recruits think of this transition period, and I think that's going to be the number one focus of whoever takes over the program."
In recent months, speculation surrounding Olson's future seemed to take a front seat. An exact reason for his departure hasn't been given.
Those how know him, like prominent businessman Jim Click, wish him the best.
"My thoughts and prayers are with Coach Olson and I think it's important that the community recognizes what he's done for our program, what he did for these kids that are now playing for the NBA," says Jim Click.
Students are also weighing in on Olson's departure.
Garrett Clatanoff says, "He gave his all while he was here and that's all you can as for. I'm happy with what he did for the program here."
Robert Lattin adds, "It's drama, and I'm from Philadelphia, so I know all about coach player drama. It really just ruins team chemistry."
Love him, or not, Lute Olson's time at the University of Arizona has come to an end.
