UFC Fans....Tito Ortiz vs. Ken Shamrock III will happen in October....ON FREE TV!!!

Ken Shamrock (Pictures), who amassed a 26-11-2 record during a fighting career that started before the first Ultimate Fighting Championship event in 1993, will retire after stepping into the cage for a third time against Tito Ortiz (Pictures) on October 10, the Lassen County News reported Tuesday.
Shamrock joined Royce Gracie (Pictures) as the UFC's first icons. He battled the Brazilian legend twice, losing by choke at UFC I and earning a draw after 36 minutes at UFC V.
Early in his career, Shamrock, later dubbed "The World's Most Dangerous Man" during a stint working for Vince McMahon, split time between the UFC and Pancrase, where he defeated fighters like Masakatsu Funaki, Bas Rutten (Pictures) and Maurice Smith (Pictures).
Shamrock would become synonymous with UFC-promoted cards, and was regarded as a figurehead for the sport in America before leaving for professional wrestling from 1996-2000.
Following his four-year fighting absence, Shamrock returned in Japan's PRIDE organization, where he fought to a 1-3 record, including a classic bout against rival Don Frye (Pictures).
It was after the Frye fight that Shamrock returned to the UFC and his first bout was likely his biggest. In November 2002 Shamrock stepped into the cage against then UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz (Pictures). He'd take a pounding at UFC 40 and the fight was called after 15 minutes.
A win over Kimo Leoplodo (Shamrock's only victory since taking out an overmatched Sam Adkins in August 2001) is the veteran's last triumph in the cage, and he has since lost three fights in a row.
His most recent bout, an early first round stoppage against Ortiz, had Shamrock pining for another opportunity at his longtime nemesis. He has been granted a third fight and it appears regardless of the result on Oct. 10, Shamrock has decided it's time to hang up his gloves.
The 42-year-old Susanville, Calif. resident told the Lassen County News that upon retirement he intends to promote MMA events, continue training fighters out of his famous Lion's Den academy, get in some golf and spend time with his family.

Gotta say it, I have so much respect for this man. Call him washed up, but takes a real man to do what he's been doing for as long as he has.

Don't write Shamrock off yet. The old man may have picked up a couple of moves since the last time he fought.
Does anyone know what they're supposed to weigh in at for this fight? Last time it was 205lb.s, but I've seen Shamrock fight in heavier weight classes before.

I think that Big John McCarthy will ref it and Dana is gonna have him stop it only if Ken is almost dead! He knows the last fight was a let down, so this one should be exciting. Tito gets the winner of Liddell Silva at the Super Saturday ppv on Superbowl weekend. Tito has a better chance against Silve ten he does against Liddell.

I thought the Liddel Silva fight was going to be in Nov if he won his Sept fight?

I personally think that Chuck will beat Sobral....but Silva has the Open Weight Grand Prix in September....he has to fight Cro Cop first....and if he wins, he has to fight the winner of Josh Barrnet and Nog. So Silva has the possibility of fighting 2 super fights in one night....then he has 2 months to recover to fight Chuck. I think Silva has more to worry about then Chuck.

I think Shamrock is gonna get his ass kicked but it will be fun to watch, especially after how the last one ended I would imagine they are more apt to let them go at it and try not to step in.

Seriously though, I'm wondering what the MO is for this. Do you think they're giving us a free show because the PPV was so disappointing? Is this a PR stunt? I know they're doing it at least partially for the money, but it's a free show, so they won't get as much as they normally do, right?
Do you think Ken's people demanded this because of the last fight's outcome?
Either way, I can't wait.

I'm still rooting for Shamrock. If you've seen some of his old fights you'll know the boy's got skillz. If they set the weight limit to 220 lb it would almost certainly go to Shamrock.

I hope its because the PPV was so bad, I had been looking froward to that UFC for so long and it sucked hardcore. I was pissed about wasting money but even more so that the fights were so disappointing, one of my friends even feel asleep during the sylvia/arlovski fight.
Whatever the reason I hope we get the fight that we were all expecting back in July

Shamrock is just cashing out one more time ... he should have retired when he was still semi-good. Ortiz is gonna give a big hurt! I seriously doubt Shamrock will have something up his sleeve.
But I'm still gonna watch it.
