Radio/Green dot helmets for Pro QBs

Each pro QB has a green dot on the back of his helmet to signify that the helmet is a radio helmet capable of receiving plays from the side or the box.

I think radio helmets are bs. I wonder what J. Montana or D. Marino's records could have been with these helmets.

Doesn't the defensive signal caller have a radio helmet as well?

I don't really follow why it's bullshit. I hate when people feel like progression ruins sports. Technology and training advancements make better athletes. It's much more exciting in my opinion. I'd much rather watch a sport with a team stacked with beasts than a team with a bunch of average guys and 2 studs who have natural ability.

It seems like people have a problem with accepting new great players and their talents/abilities. People seem to get insulted when I say Arod is the best baseball player of all time because his name isn't Mays or Mantle. Truth is Arod would rip apart 99.9% of those "old school" pitchers of the past, even the great ones. As would most good MLB players. You think Mantle would be as good as he was against Beckett and Santana? I don't.

And how would a radio helmet improve stats so dramatically?

Can the play be changed over the radio once the QB is behind center? Or is radio communication closed at that point?

Thats the only advantage I could see a modern day QB having.

QB's could always audible. I guess if there is enough time on the clock for the offensive coordinator to figure out a new play based on the defensive setup, then yea.

But thats the thing, calling an audible on what you as the QB sees in the defense vs calling it based on what the Off Cord sees from above.

they are only allowed one radio on the field at all times and only the QB may have it, hence the green dot. in the past more than one player had a radio, and they could change the play at the last second like during a FG they mite tell the holder to run w/ the ball because they saw an opening from the booth.

i don't think it's unfair. they have had radios in the helmets for years.

I don't believe that radios in helmets detracts at all from the game. and put any great team from the past against a great team of today, and I would vote for the current team every time.

Marino and Montana may not be as good as a Brady or Manning today not because of hemet radios, but today's QB's have to play against faster, smarter, larger and stronger defenses.

Not to detract from Marino or Montana's accomplishments, they were both phenomenal QBs, but against today's best, they wouldn't do as well.

It's like saying "Well, players in the 80's played better than players in the 30's because players in the 30's had to deal with leather helmets."

If Dan Marino or Joe Montana had radio input their entire careers, their stats would have been worse. Much worse.

I believe the radio signal is cut when there are 15 seconds left on the play clock so any audibles are strictly up to the quarterback and what he sees from his vantage point.

How does getting a play called to you quicker improve your athletic ability or your ability to throw a pass?

i don't that's his claim. The claim is that the can get information about the defense setup and pass coverage that older QBs couldn't get.
