Paul Pierce is on drugs!!
He claims to be the best player in the world when asked if Kobe is the best player in the world...WTF!!!!
points from comments of the page and some mine:
He couldn't do shit when he didn't have KG and Ray allen and only had Antoine walker....
He actually led his team to the worst record TWICE!!!
He rode KG's coattail this whole season....
Kobe scored 81 points in one game, MJ didn't even do that and he's my FAVORITE player!!!
He wasn't even a top 5 leading candidtae for MVP during the reg season
I think if he played 1v1 Kobe, Lebron, Tmac, Dwade, KG, Dwil, Baron and a bunch of guys he'll lose!!!!

There's a line that separates having confidence and being conceited. I don't cross that line but I have a lot of confidence in myself." Surprisingly, Spurs fans seem more upset by this than actual Lakers fans.

meh, I don't really care. Every player should think they are the best. I bet sasha vujacic thinks he's the best.

LOL. I don't think Kobe's ever come out and say that he IS the best player in the world. He has said he WANTS to be, and everyone else says it. But saying you're the best player is pretty conceited.
Pierce is no where near the best player in the world. Agree with everything you said uneekling. Put Kobe with KG and Allen and I'm sure that team would win the title. Put Pierce on the Lakers with Gasol and Lamar...I'm not sure they'd make it past the Spurs or Hornets in the West let alone get 1st place during the regular season.
Truth is (no pun intended), Pierce is a 1x champ, Kobe is a 3x champ. Robert Horry is an insane 7 time champ!! But Pierce is a defending champ, which probably gives him a little more "confidence" to flap his gums.

i bet it was taken completely out of context. if I was a pro athlete and someone said is XXXX best, i'd definately say "F' that, I AM THE GREATEST" in a joking manor

Plus, Paul Pierce was just the Finals MVP on a Celtics team that handed Kobe & the Lakers their ASS in 6 games - he can say whatever the hell he wants.

he said there's a fine line between being confident and conceited, and he (PP) is not crossing it by saying he's the best player.
with that said, i also agree with CLpower that it was probably taken out of context.
we all know PP is a great player, and so is kobe. we can argue forever about who's better than who because of # of titles, skills, etc. but it's all futile.

I know you can't have them play head to head, but Pistol Pete was one of the best (if not the best) ever. He still holds the NCAA points record 3667 with points (which did not include the 700+ points he scored in his fresman year) and the 3 point line didn't exist yet. If there was a 3 point line switching his long distance 2 pointers to 3, he would have had 4731 points then add the 741 he scored as a freshman and you have 5472 points.
As it stands the 3667 is a record that doesn't seem to be breakable. Pistol practically invented the no look pass, he had moves that could brake opponents ankles. And lastly how many other players were so friggin cool that they could have their nickname on the back of there jersey instead of their real name?
He is also the youngest player ever to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame and he retired wearing Celtic Green.
