IMHO, the news of the punishment does nothing to change anyone's opinion. People who already dislike the Pats because of this type of history still do, the people who are fans are still fans, and the people who are indifferent are still indifferent. I don't think the timing of Cam's signing moves the needed within any of those three groups in any fundamental way. Other than it gives the media another headline to chew on, but sports media is so desperate for news right now I fully expect an ESPN 30 for 30 special on this one filming incident. So signing Cam won't do anything to avoid or dilute the story, not in this environment.
In the end it will blow by like the rest of them, just another entry in the footnote of Belicheck's career that join the other similar notes already there. Those that care will care, those that won't, won't.

Funny he joined the cheaters, did they have to lock his daddy in the closet again like when he got drafted?

Some suggestions: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/i...-best-options/
But, yeah...I mean, I dunno why it has taken this team this long to do this.
This has been chatted about in some other thread but there are some Indigenous names on sports teams that are not offensive. Fighting Illini, Chippewas, Utes, Seminoles, and Blackhawks are some sports teams that have very little controversy.
The worst ones are the Cleveland Indians, the DC football team (for sure)...some argue the KC Chiefs are up there too.

There are some good suggestions in that article. I like Renegades.

I thought the Chiefs was an example of doing it right. Believe they consulted with a local tribe in designing their logo, and even the name as well.

I think KC and Atlanta are sort of in the same "classification"...if that makes sense.

That would be the list of teams I listed like the Utes, Fighting Illini et al...I am unsure about the KC Chefs...I think they have some controversy too but from my perspective, less of a problem than say the DC football team and Cleveland ball squad.

Hunt agreed to relocate the franchise to Kansas City on May 22, 1963, and on May 26 the team was renamed the Kansas City Chiefs.[13][15][16] Hunt and head coach Hank Stram initially planned to retain the Texans name, but a fan contest determined the new "Chiefs" name in honor of Mayor Bartle's nickname that he acquired in his professional role as Scout Executive of the St. Joseph and Kansas City Boy Scout Councils and founder of the Scouting Society, the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.[13][16] Despite the historical use of Native American features, it has been acknowledged that the team's naming was not a reference to Native Americans but only to Bartle's nickname "Chief."[17][18] Business Insider journalist Meredith Cash even stated in January 2020 that Bartle "insisted on the team being named after himself" and that "Bartle was known as Chief Lone Bear within Mic-O-Say circles, and eventually the nickname "Chief" caught on among people throughout Kansas City."[19]
Looks like the origin is not nearly as bad as say other brands/names...and the logo is much less "racist-y"...it's KC lettering encased in an arrowhead...not some caricature "redskin" look of an indian....
I think the Chiefs should be safe.
Plus, the Chiefs refer to a high level kind of person in native american tradition....like naming things after elite stuff which is faily common in lot of team names and brands and whatnot.......not using something pretty bad like 'redskin' that clearly is much more derogatory in nature

^ Yeah, my fave hockey team, the Chicago Blackhawks are named after an actual indigenous person and also, in honor of the first owner's WWI battalion -- which was also named in honor of the former indigenous warrior.

Crazy how fast things are moving....Redskins will probably no longer be officially named that very very soon...finally took corporate money/pressureto get it done which still sucks but guess better than nothing....

Nice. I didn't know that. I thought it was some kind of bird or something....lol...but now that you mention it Blackhawk definitely is a very possible native american name also.

Well, nothing like money talks and I guess after THIS long, this franchise takes their head out of their @$$es. Frankly, I never understood why they refused. The name is an offensive term along the same lines as having a sports team called the "Chinks" and what it would mean to me as an American Chinese.
Haha, lot of asians on here huh? Chinese american here also.

I think if they want to keep some kind of military vibe (which they seem to do), maybe the Washington Soldiers. Or if they want to go historical, maybe Washington Rebels (go back to the Revolutionary War).
I think Cleveland Indians are probably next. But I hope the others proceed with caution. Mostly because I think this type issue needs/requires the voice of the actual group being referenced to feature prominently. If they aren't offended, then we should just all move on. We don't want or need an army of social justice warriors taking up causes to change names on behalf of the folks they perceive should be offended when they actually aren't.

I like the Rebels suggestion! Maybe have a minuteman as a mascot/logo, tying in with the capitol and all.
Some of their throwbacks incorporate the letter 'R', so if they aren't scrapping it all and starting anew, it would work nicely.
Ultimately I am glad they're changing it, though worth noting it's because Snyder didn't really have a choice. The guy is still an egomaniacal scumbag. Maybe he's maturing, but given all the crap I have read about him, I doubt it.

Keep in mind "Rebels" has the connotation of civil war confederate soldiers. Just saying.
#341
Interesting, didn’t think of that. I was thinking more of the original 13 colonies rebelling. But better to be on the safe side.

Maybe the Washington Revolution? Revolutionaries? But then again I think they can avoid the connotation with the South because Washington/Maryland was part of the North. If it were the Atlanta Rebels, then maybe.....

WTF is going on with the anti-semitic remarks by some players?
To pile on top of it:
Felt (and still do) so bad for Goodwin given his family's conception struggles, but I am incredibly disappointed to see this.
Eagles 'disappointed' in DeSean Jackson over anti-Semitic posts
On his Instagram feed Monday, Jackson posted an image of a quote falsely attributed to Adolf Hitler, saying, in part, "(white) Jews will blackmail America. (They) will extort America, their plan for world domination won't work if the Negroes know who they were."
The quote apparently does not actually come from Hitler, but Jackson appeared to believe it was genuine.
Jackson also shared posts on Instagram from controversial Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who the Anti-Defamation League, Southern Poverty Law Center and other watchdog organizations have described as anti-Semitic and homophobic. Those posts have been deleted by Jackson.

[Marquise Goodwin] Comments on DeSean Jackson, Believes Adolf Hitler ‘In the Wrong’
Goodwin, who inked a one-year deal with the Eagles in April, took serious heat on social media after commenting that he wished people would care as much about “Black Lives Matter” as they did about Jackson’s posts.

Is there anything stopping him from renaming it the Washington Snyders just to shut everyone up. Like does the league have to approve it?
Wouldn't be any different than the Browns

No chance he does it but it would be really hard for anyone to disapprove of the name
