i actually like Alex Smith more then CK7. CK7 is still young and needs to mature up. after concussion and CK7 took the starting QB job i felt bad for Alex Smith and knew he won't be playing QB with the Niners ever again, and i wish they would at least let him finish last year season but guess not

I was a part of the "wait and see" group when Alex was with the 49ers. I always felt he was the best option, even when he got injured and Kaep took over. Make no mistake, pre-Harbaugh I honestly would have rather had Cassel than Smith. Though the win over the Saints a couple years ago had me in tears.
Alex's confidence took a huge hit in the early years. He never had a coach who really backed him up and trusted him. I haven't seen him play as a Chief yet, but every time he threw a ball into the dirt or overthrew a deep pass to a sort-of-open receiver (afraid to throw an INT?) it made me fume.
I don't see Alex ever breaking 30 pass TDs in a season. He is an upgrade over many teams, even now. But he has always had a good running game and defense to support him... not much different now. He makes good decisions, but I don't necessarily consider him accurate.
I think two recent games that I would choose to highlight the difference between Alex and Kaep are either of the games Alex played against the Giants (2011 NFC Championship game) or 2012 at home, compared to Kaep against the Patriots last year. The whooping we put on the Pats made me jizz a little by the 3rd quarter.

Stunna is just a butthurt Bucs fan. Though I shouldn't criticize, the 49ers slump throughout the '00s pales in comparison to the creamsicle crew.

That Divisional win against the Saints was amazing, I still remember Smith running in the end zone in that game like it was yesterday. Even when he got hurt in the Rams game and Kaep took over I still wanted Smith back when he got healthy. But Harbaugh must have seen something in practice to give Kaepernick a shot. Even after his win in New England it still took me while to get completely sold on #7 but after his comeback against Green Bay last season in the playoffs, I was finally sold. Still a very bad break for Alex, but I will always be a fan of his.
Smith has been playing well in KC, I have Sunday Ticket so I checked out the Chiefs game this past Sunday. Like in San Fran, he doesn't throw down the field but still makes smart plays and avoids mistakes. A couple of his passes were too low and un-catchable, but he did have a nice TD pass to Bowe, even though it was short yardage.

figured I'd drop this in here, always cracks me up even though sometimes I can't stand the Giants...

Okay...not a follower of the Browns and their going-ons I guess. Just thought they are giving up on him too soon. Oh well, I think the Colts will be happy with this acquisition.
Manning and James Part 2 with Luck and Richardson?

Colts will do well so it'll be a low 1st. However Cleveland's own record will suffer and they'll be in the Teddy Bridgewater sweepstakes even though they just drafted Weeden. I'm surprised by the timing since they just got back their #1 receiver Josh Gordon. They have a TE who's putting up nice stats in Jordan Cameron, a good slot WR in Davone Bess, and one of the best LT's in Joe Thomas. Plus their D seems to be pretty tough and Joe Haden completely shut down Mike Wallace in Week 1. I think they're smart unloading a 1st round RB when RB's nowadays are dime a dozen. This potentially could be a nice team in a couple of years.

97Ack's Steelies duke it out with Da Bears this Sunday night. Even if they are 0-2, that's a proud and wounded team that should not be taken lightly.
Bears better show up or they are handing Pittsburgh their first win.

What a stupid fucking trade. This is EXACTLY what I was afraid of when Lombardi was brought in. I'm not going to try T. Rich off as the second coming of Jim Brown here, but he was at least a solid back and a relatively set position for years to come while they filled the other holes on the roster. They have glaring needs at O-Line (guard in particular), CB and WR yet we trade our one player resembling an offensive weapon because they're going chasing ANOTHER QB.
Yes, yes I know Cameron is solid and they have Gordon, but the current regime doesn't like Gordon, at all. Lombardi blasted the Browns when he was still on NFL network for the pick, so it wouldn't shock me if they show him the door in the next year or two. Not that any of these guys matter while Lombardi lives out his man-crush on Brian Hoyer anyway.
So great, they stockpiled draft picks, that's fantastic. It's still Mike Lombardi who is going to be making the selections with those picks and as of right now the only player to see the field from his draft last year is Mingo, as a backup. Real great work there Lombardi, real ace drafting.

Seems they are loading up for next year and trying to be in the running for another high draft pick..., any team that gets Teddy Bridgewater, is going to be better fast!

I have only seen quote from the owner about this trade, not Lombardi. Seems like that who made they deal. TR was neither choice as he was drafted two years ago.

The Colts desperation for a RB was pretty common knowledge and the Browns probably could have wrung another draft choice of the Colts is they had tried, but they were so damn desperate to ship out Richardson they gave in. If the Browns actually had a viable alternative waiting, I probably wouldn't be as mad as I am, but the complete middle finger to the fans is rage inducing. If they don't care about this season, why should I?
The sheer stupidity of their strategy to chase another QB just amazes me. In my mind, drafting a top rated QB high does nothing if you don't have a line or WRs to throw the ball to (see Tim Couch or David Carr). With the shaky play from the Browns line and inability of anyone but Cameron to get open, what good is a player like Bridgewater to the Browns? They should have used all those picks to address actual holes on the team, not go chasing some college QB because Lombardi and Banner have to get their way.
