It was put in place to get rid of disputed national champ questions because you could have multiple teams that could legitimately claim the title. Only one team really can make that claim this year and they are in the playoff. One of the other three could beat them in the playoff, but no one else can really make the claim this year they are #1 going into the playoffs. If anything Alabama should be complaining that they should go back to the old system.

I think changing things so you wind up with something like the NHL or NBA where close to 50% of the teams make that playoffs is nuts. It should be hard to make the playoffs. The only reason the pro-leagues do it is so they can make more money. If OK or Penn St. wanted in, they shouldn't have lost two games. The best team in the country doesn't lose two games during the season.
- The old system was a joke. Putting new coat of paint on a dilapidated house doesn't make it a better house.
- There are 128 FBS teams. Putting 8 in the playoff says you take the top 6%, no where near 50%.
- Asking 19-20 year olds to go undefeated or only have one bad Saturday out of 13 with the billions of dollars they generate is insanely difficult.
- With 128 teams, 5 major conferences, and only 12 games, there is no way to accurately compare teams who can never play each other. Who knows how good Washington really is. Even if they have one loss, that doesn't mean they are better than 4-loss Auburn who lost to Clemson, Bama, a healthy TAMU, and Georgia. Those first three teams would all beat Washington, but we just have to guess that Washington could hang.
- This is the only mainstream sport in the US that didn't have a playoff or only lets in 4 teams. It goes against every thing we know about sports.
- The National Champion should be the team that is playing the best at the end of the year, just like every other sport we know.

It's funny you mention money as if it's an issue with regard to the NFL. The problem in college football is money. The Rose Bowl wants the Big 10 and Pac 12, and they want to play on New Years Day. Period. You can't change it because the owner says so. Why? Because money. The whole bowl game system is a giant money grab, and no one wants to "risk" changing it even when it doesn't make sense. Show me another sport where a playoff doesn't start for 3 weeks after the last game. Hell, I'll give you two weeks. OSU will wait over a month to play their next game. No other sport in the world puts a month hiatus in the middle of a season.

The biggest issue I have with the arguments against 8 teams and "the changes" is that it takes 7 games to win an 8 team playoff. Guess how many big games we have now? 7. Let the Rose Bowl stay on New Years Day, but tell them they get the semi-finals. Make the Sugar bowl the other semifinal. Take the Cotton, Fiesta, Peach, and Orange Bowls, make them a quarterfinal, and play them just before Christmas. The National Championship is no longer a bowl game, so there's your 7 without taking anything away.

Unfortunately I don't think that works with the Rose Bowl. I get why they don't want to be part of the Championship. I have been to the Rose Bowl and lots of people make it a destination family vacation which is what we did. One they take a month or so to plan and normally spend 5-7 days in the area.. By making it part of the playoff you now only know your team is going with a week before and it hurts attendance.

Yes, the system puts sports second to tourism and money. I agree.

Now, I realize my team lost, and I have come to terms with that. However, Big 10. Y'all suck. Especially THE Ohio State University. Y'all really suck. Here we thought the Big 10 might actually be as good as they say they are, but .

How do you really feel?

Wisconsin 24 Western Michigan 16.

As far as Michigan and OSU are concerned I am little surprised by the outcome.

Yeah, beating Western Michigan doesn't count for a whole lot when you are ranked over USC, FSU, Florida, and LSU.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to trash the Big 10 completely and tout any other conference as far superior, but the long standing question about the Big 10 is the lack of strength of schedule it's teams play. It plagues the Pac 12 too. Before bowl season, I was on board to think the Big 10 was the top conference with 4 teams in the top 10. However, now I'm back to questioning how good they really are when they don't often play teams from the South (where the majority of top athletes originate and many stay).

And, of it makes you feel better, I wouldn't have wanted to play Wisconsin this bowl season. Very disappointing end to the season for the Aggies.

Not a very good ending for the Buckeyes. No one saw that shit mess of a game coming.. If Clemson beats Bama Monday I'll feel a little bit better but really I'm over it already. 2017 is a new year... :-)

Now that was a good football game. I always have and probably will continue to criticize the college football system, but they definitely put the two best teams on the field today. Go Clemson. Congrats, because y'all deserve it.

Still thinking about that NC State missed field goal vs Clemson earlier in the year. That would have changed everything, someone's lookin out for the Tigers. Amazing game and great ending to the season.
