I think the NBA in its current state is totally pathetic. Everyone is fucking 15 years old, doesn't know how to play defense...the teams are watered down, and every player looks like they came directly from a gang shooting. :shakehead
Bring back Magic, Bird, and Jordan...THAT was Basketball. What the NBA is now is a fucking ESPN Highlight reel for dunking. :ghey:

I'm fucking terrible...I say "remember when...." constantly, especially when surrounded by pubescents up in here who weren't even rolling down the fallopian tube when Bird/Johnson/Jordan played.

Look at pitchers for example, many of these fat fucks couldn't compete in any other sport but baseball. Put these guys on a weekend beer flag football or basketball leauge and they couldn't do shit. Hell I'm more athletic than 1/2 of the major league players in the league, I certainty couldn't make that same statement about football or basketball players. Baseball players are not athletes period.

I think the sport is just evolving. Do you think a team from 1980 could hang with a team today? I don't think so. Players are bigger, stronger, faster... those shooters from back in the day that everyone talks about as being pure basketball... would get their asses kicked today.
Its true that there are less pure shooters, but that is because that skill alone is not enough to be competitive anymore. You've gotta be 6'8" with a 7 foot vertical leap also. I love the NBA and I think its better than ever.
You watched any suns games recently? Incredible.

I think the 92 Dream Team would kick ass all over these young punks. Did you ever watch Magic Johnson or Larry Bird?
You only watch the Suns because they're good this year.

Just because they don't run as much as a basketball player doesn't mean they aren't an athlete.

And I've been a Suns fan since I moved to AZ... always hated the DBacks and the Cardinals with a passion, but the Suns are great.

I remember a few years ago ESPN did a study about which sport is the most athletic and boxing won, baseball finished way down the list below football and basketball. Hell hockey ever beat it out.
but you think a 6'5" 380 pound center is the epitome of athleticism? Or any quarterback? I don't think I'd put Peyton Manning as mr perfect athlete either...
each sport calls for different athletic abilities. to play MLB, you've gotta be in whatever shape it takes to get the job done. if you judge the quality of a sport by only the raw physical conditioning of the players, I think you are missing out on a lot.

Look...
Baseball has athletes, but it's not an athletic sport.
Basketball sets up the rules against defense, so stop complaining about players not playing it.
And 380lb centers have a 40 time that would leave you all in the dust.

Not complaining about the players playing the way they play, I'm just saying that the rules make it suck to watch.
And there isn't a single 380lb center that would run a faster 40 than me. No chance.

I agree that overall baseball requires less conditioning than many sports... but they are definitely still athletes. Its not shuffleboard...

Sure he would. And don't you think he'd be much less effective going up against Shaq, Duncan, Garnett, McGrady, Amare? I'd love to see what Wilts numbers would be if he was playing now.

And they may not be faster (I was exaggerating for effect), but they are by no means unathletic with 5 second 40's http://archive.profootballweekly.com...02.asp#Centers

Certainly, you could argue to do both, the conditioning does not require one to be as fit as say a basketball player or football player...But, athletes nonetheless...
