According to that ESPN story, he owed a shitload of money to rappers/producers who had been financing his lifestyle until he got his contract. He says he had been receiving threats, possibly towards his newborn daughter...who knows what he was going to do. The witness thing could have been a coincidence.

Loser? Yeah. But to me there's a lot more to his story than some ghetto punk who screwed up.
Sounds like one troubled and depressed individual to me.
Made some serious mistakes along the way... got caught up in the Hollywood lifestyle thanks to some greedy rappers who saw him as a way to make some extra cash. Then when he fucked up and didn't get signed the threats started rolling in because people wanted their money back.

He was embarrassed to run on a track because some school kids were there and they would know he wasn't in the NFL... that is some seriously low self esteem.

Exactly. There's some psychological disorder there. That goes beyond having an ego and not wanting to train on a school track.

Man why can't people call a thug a thug. That's what he is.
And it sounds like his ego IS EXACTLY what kept him from running on that track. I don't see how you could read it any other way.
I say good riddance to bad rubbish. Let him rot in jail. Keeps shit like this off the streets.

That goes beyond ego. That's a serious paranoia. He knows he's a failure and is ashamed of it.
