Good riddance to J.R.
Sure his early career was excellent.....but he ripped off many a team for $$$ when he should have retired many years ago.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the guy....especially in the Hawks years....but his last few years....he was a clown....he should have been put out to pasture long ago.

The sizzle in the Steak
It was his personality which kept him around for the past few years. JR seems like he'd be really good in the dressing room and a good guy to have around. Plus he did score 500+ goals so I'm sure teams would hope that some of that would rub off on their younger players. How much is all that worth ($) depends on whatever someone is willing to pay. I wouldn't say he ripped anyone off.
Stats don't lie....not to mention his mouthing-off during the lock-out.....not the kind of attitude you want rubbing off on your young players.

Pretty much the only thing J.R. did after the lock-out that made me smile.

Theo fleury attempting comeback to the nhl
Sources tell TSN Theoren Fleury is attempting a comeback and wants to play in the NHL again.
After playing senior hockey last season, Fleury decided in February he was fit enough to give the NHL another try, so he hired a personal trainer and has been working diligently since.
Those close to him say he didn't leave the National Hockey League the way he wanted, which is fueling his desire to return.
The 41-year-old has been sober for almost four years and has been skating daily in Calgary in the hope that an NHL team is willing to invite him to training camp.
Interest in the former Stanley Cup champion won't be enough to clear the way for Fleury's return. He remains under indefinite suspension and would first have to be approved by the NHL and the NHLPA's Substance Abuse programs doctors before reinstatement would be considered.
Sources say Fleury recently sent NHL commissioner Gary Bettman a letter acknowledging his comeback bid and has also discussed the possibility with the leagues doctors.
At 5' 6'', Fleury was one of the smallest players in hockey. Intense and fearless, Fleury made a name for himself for more than his stature. He could score, play defensively and lead teams to championships in junior hockey, in the NHL and on the international stage.

Theo Flurey was one of my favorite players growing up. Still have his rookie card. Small guy with a huge heart. Then he went to play in NYC and fell of the wagon. Good to hear he's sober but a comeback is a bit of a stretch.

HAWKS' KANE ARRESTED FOR ROBBING, ASSAULTING CAB DRIVER
Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane and his cousin were arrested early Sunday morning for assaulting and robbing a cab driver in Buffalo, according to several news sources in that city.
According to a police report, the 20-year-old Kane and his cousin James M. Kane, 21, were arrested around 5am et after allegedly punching the cabbie after he said he did not have proper change for their trip fare.
The report says the cab fare was $13.80 and the Kanes handed the driver $15. He claims he had only $1 change and was not in possession of another twenty cents to give back. According to the police report, both Kanes took their money back and punched the cabbie in the face and head.
Both men have been charged with second-degree robbery, fourth-degree criminal mischief and theft of services.
The NHL is working with the local police department in trying to assemble the details, while NHLPA Executive Director Paul Kelly and NHLPA Director of Player Affairs Glenn Healy are also gathering information on the case.
Kane, a Buffalo native, had attended a press conference with the mayor to announce funding for a local rink earlier in the evening.
WGRZ.com says the driver appeared to have suffered cuts to his face as well as damage to his glasses.
Buffalo's WIVB is reporting that an attorney for the Kanes has entered a plea of not guilty in City court.

Cabbie's lawyer: Kane's late-night incident 'blown out of proportion'
Sure is...
From Daily Herald...
From Daily Herald...
The attorney for the Buffalo cabdriver accusing Blackhawks star Patrick Kane and his cousin of beating and robbing him early Sunday morning said Monday the incident has been blown out of proportion.
Andrew C. LoTempio, speaking on WGN-AM radio Monday, also said he didn't believe Kane or his cousin would face felony charges from the incident with driver Jan Radecki, and that he thought the two sides would be able to work things out.
"It's pretty much been blown out of proportion," LoTempio told WGN. "It's a dispute over the cab fee and unfortunately Mr. Radecki didn't recognize Mr. Kane and just thought they were a couple of college kids.
"Some of the cabdrivers here have a policy of not unlocking the doors until they get paid because they get beat on their fees by the college kids, and that just kind of blew up."
According to a Buffalo police report, Kane, 20, and his cousin, James Kane, 21, allegedly punched Radecki and took back money they had given him after the driver told them he didn't have 20 cents to give them change.
The Kanes were charged with second-degree robbery, a Class C felony, and fourth-degree criminal mischief and theft of services, both Class A misdemeanors.
LoTempio told WGN he thought the final charges would "absolutely not" be felonies, calling it a "regular kid incident." LoTempio then said, "I think we should be able to work things out" with Kane.
Attempts by the Daily Herald to reach LoTempio by telephone and e-mail Monday morning were unsuccessful.
The Buffalo News also reported the Kanes will appear in Buffalo City Court next Monday for a felony hearing. Both men have pleaded not guilty.

Where is there more to the story? The 2 kids punched a cabbie and took money from him. Sounds like assault and robbery to me. Just saying... but the robbery charge is a joke and should get dropped since the amount is $13.80. I'm sure they will get it all worked out and Kane won't see a minute of jail time. It's just a couple of misdemeanors, nothing some community service doesn't fix.

How was it blown out of proportion. There's no excuse for beating up a old guy. The fact that it was over 20 cents or even the entire $15 makes it even more inexcusable. Throw the book at him.
And then trade him to Toronto.

Patrick Marleau is no longer the captain of the San Jose Sharks.
Head coach Todd McLellan told the Mercury News on Monday that the team's captaincy and the assistant captain positions are all vacant. Joe Thornton and Mike Grier were the assistant captains for the 2008-09 season. Grier signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres earlier this month.
"As of now," McLellan told the Mercury News, "nobody is our captain."
Marleau has come under fire repeatedly over the last few seasons with regards to the team's poor playoff record and his leadership in the dressing room, but McLellan explained that the leadership issues on the team go beyond his former captain.
"It's a collective thing and it starts with me as coach."
McLellan plans to go into training camp in September and see how the leadership situation progresses. Marleau could even potentially earn the "C" back.
"I want to see who's stepping up to the front," McLellan told the newspaper. "We'll see as it evolves. I can walk around town and everybody's giving me a suggestion. We can talk about it internally - everybody has an opinion. I believe it'll sort itself out."
Last season the Sharks won the Presidents Trophy, leading the NHL with 117 points, but they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Anaheim Ducks in six games.
Marleau's name has been mentioned in trade rumours over the past two seasons, but he has a no-trade clause with one year left on his contract.
The 29-year-old was taken by the Sharks in the 1st round (2nd overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. Last season he scored 38 goals with 33 assists and a plus-16 rating in 76 games. Over his 11 NHL seasons he has amassed 610 points (276 goals, 334 assists) over 871 games.
