Fantasy Baseball: 2009 AZ MLB League
Looking to see if there's enough interest to do a pay league. So far Joe5.0 and myself are in. The league will be Head to Head and we'll try to get at least 10 teams. Buy in will be $20 or $25 (US) depending on what everyone's OK with. Add your name if you want to play. Once you confirm you want to play, I'll send you the league info.
1) SG81
2) Joe5.0

no cap on starts, but the minimum innings pitched is at 10. 10 innings is nothing though. if you don't adjust your roster, you should still reach 10 innings pitched for the week.
we could always change the stat categories around if guys want

ya changing it is fine with me. just post what you guys want to change/ remove.
what do you want to do about the innings pitched? remove the minimum?, raise it?, change it to max innings?

i don't think you can do max. IP as a stat category (can you?) and anyway by stacking SPs, you would probably end up losing SVs and most hitting cat's...i vote min. IP be raised to at least 30
...but why have K's on both sides?
...why have both ER and ERA?
...why have both Hits and AVG?
...why have both IP and min. IP?
^those are redundant stats
...and why have CG???

See, I kinda like the CG stat, most times it prob will be a tie, but it gives a nice bonus for a great game by a SP.
You'd have to add a hitting stat to make it even, and I'd like Hits probably.
Having 12 stat categories I like better than 10 because it makes it easier to have a great week, and plus makes it a little more intersting, imo.
I had multiple pitchers last yr have CG's and I got nothing for it.

i checked and you can't put in a max innings pitched.
i'd also agree we should raise the minimum innings pitched 30.
Here's my vote for stats:
Batting:
R, H, HR, RBI, SB, AVG
Pitching:
W, CG, SV, K, ERA, WHIP
Let's get more players and have everyone vote b4 we make the changes
i'd also agree we should raise the minimum innings pitched 30.

Can we do 5x5 or 6x6 with CG as a "bonus" stat category instead of including it as one of the 5 or 6? Otherwise, it's going to result in a lot of ties, or even weeks, because there will be very few Complete Games, especially nowadays with the sensitivity to injuries and pitch counts. I would propose we either take out Hits or add a relevant pitching category. Just a thought.

i copied the positions from last year's league but think it might be too many bench:
C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, Util, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL
what do you think?
C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, Util, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL
what do you think?

5x5 is the best scoring system IMO
the Hits category tracks the same thing as AVG...the more hits you get, the higher your average goes, and vice versa...it is redundant to keep both stats.
...but if you really want to keep Hits, add IP, just don't make it unbalanced (i.e. 5x6)

i dunno. i don't think hits is the same as AVG. say a guy has 1 AB and gets a hit, his AVG is a perfect 1.000. while another guy has 5 AB's and gets 3 hits. his AVG is lower, but he has more hits

H and AVG are similar in the same way that ER and ERA are similar, the difference is the denominator, At Bats and 9Innings, respectively.
If your team had only a few AB's in a week, your argument would make sense, but since they have a few hundred, it doesn't.

not in this league either, but I think 5x5 is the best imo
personally don't like categories where certain players have no chance. Like relievers have no chance at CG.
then again.. i'm contradicting myself with the saves cat.

If you look at most fantasy baseball leagues (espn, cbs-sportsline, etc) their standard 5x5 scoring system for roto and head-to-head doesn't even let you include Hits...even if you go to 6x6, they normally only add OBP to hitting and Holds to pitching. Look it up. Hits are a useless stat in fantasy baseball.
