2012 Cars & Coffee Charlotte *UPDATED for Oct 6th*

Hey all!! Well, it's a new year, so time for a new topic for C&C meets. I kind of dropped the ball with January, but I'll keep this updated going forward.

Also, for those fairly new to the region, keep an eye on this topic as well as the SouthEast regional forum as several times a year we'll have an informal AZ meet which usually begins with C&C Charlotte.

I know there's one on Feb. 4, 2012... but I'm sure as the warm weather returns, there will be others.

Hope to see you out there!!

FYI, this Saturday has been confirmed. Hopefully the weather stays where it is. If so, should be a good turnout!

Well this sucks but I could tell this was coming since the end of last summer things just were getting more out of control than they were in end of 2010 and first half of 2011.

The event is suspended indefinitely until a new location is found. Here is the official word and then a description of what happened in March that was the final straw that killed it.

Charlotte Area Cars and Coffee- march 3rd event postponed!! Please read.
Fellow Cars and Coffee participants

Sorry it has taken me some time this week to post our event. I have been working with the new property managers at North Lake Common to come to an understanding of what our event has become and our ability to work together (different than the general mall property owner. They only own and manage the store fronts were Panera and Fox and the Hound are). Unfortunately we were not able to reach a common ground and I have decided to move the location of Charlotte area cars and coffee for future events. The new location at this time is to be determined. The size that this event as become, the unstructured nature of the event, and the antics of this past month all lead to this decision.

I know this is short notice for our event tomorrow but the weather forecast seems to have had a premonition about this outcome and it is suppose to rain. This may give us a week or more to find an alternative location that really fits our needs and will be mutual with the property owners. Over the years I have been approached by several alternative locations that extended a warm welcome to host our monthly event. I will revisit this list I have collected at this time.

If you could do your part and inform your friends and family members that have enjoyed this event over the past three years of this change I would greatly appreciate it. We thank North Lake Commons for their past hospitality and wish them luck.

Stay tuned to charlottecarsandcoffee.com and other sites to see the change it should be posted this week. I would ask if you are going to attend tomorrow that you part behind Men's Warehouse they have given us that lead way with the short notice with the understanding that we will be out by April.

Sorry for the short notice and inconvenience. We will figure this out and return to the great event this has become for Charlotte area car enthusiast!

Michael
I am the President of the Carolina Z Club, and we are there every month, even if it's just in our daily drivers. Our club-members have always been respectful and mature about it.

At the March C&C there were at least 3 or 4 "burnouts" done by cars that were leaving the event, presumably because it was easy to do on the wet roads and some people just couldn't resist ruining the event for everybody.

I saw one kid fishtailing it on the access road that splits the two parking lots, talk about dangerous and stupid! This particular person was driving a red Honda S2000 and he returned to the parking lot after his antics, so I went over and had a few words with him about what he just did. He was with a group of 18-20 year-olds (best guess) with hoodies, and justified his actions by telling me a friend was filming it!

Even though we should all self-police as I did, once it's done it's done and the damage irreversible.

When you figure out where the new home will be, I would like to discuss with Michael a way to keep a "ban list" for people who may jeopardize the event, and a self-policing system we can all take part in. Another idea is to have a flyer with the etiquette rules that should be placed on the windshield of all the cars that are parked there, but of course now that incurs a cost and a volunteer base. Arrgg! I can't believe a few people that lack restraint just damaged the best monthly event in the Charlotte area.

This really is a shame because I have loved attending this event. I always thought it was a great location for it. It was also pretty much the only event that was in North Charlotte anymore as everything had been chased out and moved south of the City. Because of this I do not know if I will go as much anymore.

Why cant people restrain themselves from doing something stupid??

I hope they find a new location quickly, and I hope C&C still gets the large turnout that it has in the past.

I hope they find a good new central location quickly as well. Problem is I wonder how many people will no longer go cause it moved. Also if the new place doesn't have a good location for breakfast right at it I don't think it will be as popular. I was tempted to still go when I read that Saturday at 7am but sleep won me over. I bet it was still a decent turnout since it was only posted for one day prior to the event.

A shame. I like their idea of a ban list, but I imagine it would be too hard to enforce. Hopefully they find somewhere with a bigger parking lot...I hated having to walk between three different lots to see cars on packed out days.

Thanks for posting... was just coming here to update as I just read that after looking for the rain date.

Kind of sucks and I hate to say it... but while it was nice having the large turn out... the more and more "kids" that started showing up, the less exotics and the more issues. We've been going almost since the beginning... and when it was mainly higher end cars... there were ZERO issues. Hopefully when they find a new location they'll be able to address this.

BTW, for those in the area, there is a meet at 131 Main in Blakeney on March 24th. Think it's 11am-3pm... Italian cars and bikes. I'll be there with the Ducati assuming the weather is nice. Should be good and you have to register to show, which ensures the meet stays as designed. They only have it once per year and it seems to be well attended.

our Atlanta Caffeine and Octane meet has moved 4 times in the past 2 years....always due to over growth as well as a few people with fewer brain cells than the rest that decide they want to show off...Usually this ends up in wrecks, or at the very least, tickets...

Sucks that a few people ruin a good thing for hundreds of people.

I really wish I just owned a lot somewhere in/around Charlotte. Just have one main entrance/exit gate, and you can control who enters and exits. If I were running the show I would require registration so you know who's who... and if anyone messes around, they're not allowed back...

Interesting. Not sure why it would fail so bad. Must be poor management. Car shows (NOPI, HIN, etc) basically use this system all the time. Used to do it quite a bit at dealer type meets in NY/NJ as well...
