woooo, I thought you guys died. Ive just been taking it easy and ordering car parts. Gonna enjoy my b-day tomorrow and then go to GoPro Sunday around noon if anyone is interested.
Well happy bday!
Dang everytime someone plans to go to GoPro I have something planned. Heading to the dragon this weekend with the TSX. First roadtrip for it in a long time.
Sadly since I stopped working downtown Alex I rarely make it down that way anymore. We definitely need to plan something though on a weekend sometime with everyone. My November though is booked full unfortunately.
No worries, November is pretty much full for us as well. I might create a thread later this month and see if we can get a group together for December. Nothing too exciting, just meet up a bar and have a few drinks on a Friday.
I hope you make it out back to NC soon. I don't think I will be on another CO trip for a few years. I plan to come out every 3-4 years as the skiing and beer is just too good.
Oh 4runners nice. TRD Pro? They are beautiful. Be great for all the climbing you do. The tan or grey colors are awesome.
Or Stormtrooper style never fails.
I'm partial to gray and white we shall see unfortunately cycling has been consuming my new ride funds rather quickly! also, this winter isn't expected to bring much powder. but if you came, all the new distilleries would give you enough to do
Well I missed November's C&C but should be able to make it to December's! Hopefully it's warm enough out to want to go
It is always warm enough. Silly southerners. Plus I am sure those turbos love the colder air.

Damn I was going to come but just found out that a guy I have worked with since I started my current position is having his retirement party Saturday at basically the same time.

My blood has definitely thinned. In NY I'd wear shorts almost all year round. Here I'm in a sweatshirt once the temp drops below 60... especially at night.
Well, looks like I won't be at C&C again this month.
That said, if anyone is around Mooresville I'll be at GoPro Motorplex helping out some fellow racers for their season finale up there. Feel free to swing by
Make sure the TL starts on Friday instead of Saturday...idiot
I will be sure to drive it through some water as well and suck some up into the engine like you did that one time before you went into a dark and lonesome time in your life and didn't tell anyone what you did for a month. ....idiot
Alright peeps... lots of photographers in our area so had a camera question.
Looking to get a good entry level camera. Nothing super expensive but something that will take good pictures that I can grow into as I learn each of the manual settings. Would be used mainly for landscape type pictures as well as for my business. Most if not all of my business photos would be still shots (photos of the karts, gear, equipment, etc).
Canon T6i is a great starter camera. Evan and myself were talking to a guy at cars and coffee about this same situation. I have a Canon t3i and have been using it for nearly 4 years now. I can say that I know just about every feature about this thing now and at some point will be going to a better body but I will say that I've never had an issue with the camera yet. Brand new with 2 lenses and body was around $700, which is where the T6i is priced at. The best thing about the T6i is that it has wifi, a flip screen that also doubles as a touch screen, a better version of the 18 - 55mm with STM for better stabilization for video and or not using a tripod. This kit lenses arent badly priced either. In my arsenal Ive got the
I've had a Nikon D3100 for 5 years and enjoy using it. While a decent camera body is important, having good glass is even more important. I've put one of Eric's fancy lenses on my entry-level camera body and the difference was instantly noticeable.

Correct me if I am wrong... but I have heard that the Nikon's can use a broader range of lenses... even older Nikon lenses whereas other brands can only use lenses made for that camera.
Is that true? I have had several folks recommend the Nikon D5500 as well so just trying to sort all the info out
Yes Nikons can use a broader range of lens because of the way the entry level cameras are designed. https://www.slrlounge.com/how-to-use...rn-nikon-dslr/ If you go Full Frame it doesn't matter you can use all old film lenses then on either platform.
Are you planning on using this to shoot karting? If so fast highend glass will be more important than the camera body to start out.
The D5500 is definitely a good starter camera. That being said it is in the small group of Nikon DSLR that can't use older Nikkor lenses because of the way the autofocus is driven. The D3000 and D5000 series are the only ones limited by this.
The Nikkor AF will not focus on D5500. Do not know about the Tamron -- probably not. You can check it yourself by looking at the rear end of the lens. If it has a slot for the flat "screwdriver" in it, the D5500 cannot drive the focus of the lens. Neither can any of the D3000 series bodies.
If you want to upgrade AND use your existing AF lenses, the cropped sensor cameras to consider are used D90, D300, D300s, D7000, or new D7100, D7200. A used D70, D70s, or D80 are not enough of an upgrade from D50 imho. You could also consider a used D200. The Nikkor 50 AFD can be used on full-frame D700 (used) or later.
If you want upgrade from D50 and are prepared to buy some very good new lenses, then the D5500, or D3300 are very good choices.
I am not sure what your budget is but one camera I might suggest trying to pickup used is a Nikon D7100. It would be more camera than you would need right now but at the same time be something that can use older lenses and grow into as well. You can find a used D7100 body for less than $500.
You don't lose out though on anything but the much older lenses. I would say though that at this point it is probably lenses that are at least 20 years old now. I have one that was desinged that long ago that I would hate to lose but they have now made a new version of it so it really doesn't matter now.
I am actually just getting back into this hobby and upgraded my 9 year old D300 with a D500 finally.
I would be using it for the business, but mainly to shoot the equipment, group photos at the track, etc. That said I had a client yesterday (two families... 4 drivers) and one of the fathers asked me to take cell pics of the boys while they were on track... so I'm thinking it may progress to some action shots which honestly, I can use as an upsell once I get good with it.
I would like to be all in for $500-$800 to start. I know that's a broad range but I am willing to spend on the higher end if it gets me what I need to get going. I can always add lenses and such from there once I learn the basics. I don't know that not being able to use older lenses on the D5500 would deter me since I currently own nothing... but I love that info you provided and will read those links so I can learn a bit more.
