Arrow for the so-cal people

i don't know if anyone knew but the prostitution on Craigs list cant be stopped by the law authorities or lawyers have tried and still couldn't win the case this is why...

it's because of the 1996 Communications Decency Act. Although the primary focus of the Act is to shield children from adult content on the Internet, Section 230 of the Act states that any "interactive computer service" is not a publisher of the content that third parties post, and thus is immune from lawsuits or prosecution based on the material its users post.

The immunity provided by the Communications Decency Act is very broad, and although it does not cover criminal activity, it does cover prostitution ads on Craigslist. Thus far, law enforcement has failed in court to pierce Craigslist's immunity.

whats going to happen next.........oh and the stock exchange had a melt down for 20 mins and lost $1 trillion in stock OUCH!

I can see why.. the courts have been trying hard to apply traditional torts to cyberspace. It has been a task to decide which apply laws apply and which do not. Craigslist being an "interactive comptuer service" is similar to Internet Service Providers. The CDA states that "no provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another finromation content provider". Time Warner, went through a similar lawsuit when its users were posting defamatory messages using their service. Although, Time Warner was aware of the messages and failed to remove them, the district court and federal appelate court ruled in favor of Time Warner. The District court stated, "[the CDA] plainly immunizes computer service providers from liabilty for information that originates with third parties". The federal appelate court stated that the purpose of the statute is "to maintain the robust nature of Internet communication and, accordingly, to keep government interneference in the medium to a minimum." It does provide Craigslist some immunity with similar cases being ruled the same way, however, when the court orders them to provide information of its posters, then they are required to reveal such information. The problem is that some courts have ruled against the ordering of such information because it goes against the defendant's free speech rights.

about the stock market plunge.

"A trading error known as the “fat finger problem” at a major investment bank may have caused a huge plunge in the US stock market overnight.

Procter & Gamble Co has confirmed a sudden drop in its share price was an error.

"We aren't in a position to comment on the details of an individual trade today but we believe the trade was an error," P&G said in an emailed statement.."

apparently

"While concerns about the Australian market being a risky investment was behind much of the losses, a trader mistakenly entering "b" for billion instead of "m" for million may have caused the record market plunge on Wall St overnight." fat finger.. lol
